Thank you. He went from 55 lbs to 135 in 5 months. Very well socialized and loves our other 2 dogs. I think everyone should own a Fila. Lol.

Here's Halo (10 months) and Brindle (8.5 y/o. 80 lb. Pit/Shep mix). Halo learning how to guard. LOL.

i have a fila too
ummmmmmmmmmmm
a fila is not a dog for everyone !!!!!!
only well trained owners should have a fila
we love ours
but  as for guard  she is a natural
training a fila to gaurd is like  lighting a bomb fuse
we have socialized her to where she can be pet by strangers when on a leash
but as for the house
no strangers allowed unless she is locked up
please do research on the fila,  it is a powerfull animal that should not be taken for granted that it will get along with other dogs or people as they mature.
they are also prone to h/d and elbow dysplacia. our has good hips but a bad elbow
of course, she has been spayed

Maybe you misunderstood. I am not training him to guard. He was just doing what the older dog (Brindle) was doing. He's been great with our dogs. Strange dogs are a different matter. Had a 145 lb Rotty that was the same way. Halo is under total control at ALL times. I take nothing for granted and do not trust him in certain situations. We use a side door at the vet for this reason. He loves the vet though. Maybe having been bounced around as a young pup helped socialize him somewhat. He was confiscated in DC at 8-9 weeks. In shelters and foster homes until 5.5 months. Lived with other dogs so he knew what was acceptable and not. He been great and not the trouble you read about Fila's on other boards. Jumping out of windows, nipping children etc.

good luck with halo

please remember that fila's dont hit maturity until 3 years old

since he is still a young pup  he has lots of time to mature and the fila instinct developes.
our went right threw a screen window when the phone man came to do a repair
we caught her in time before she could get out
thank goodness
ill never give up my fila, but after she passes.ill never get another one. i think they are great dogs for a 1 dog family, with lots of home care.someone that does not need to be out 8 hours a day.
our fila was a gift,"rescue" too, because of the temperment.
she tried to kill the other dogs at the old home. we did get her in check, and she lives with our dogs, no fights, but she sure is the boss here.

My Rotty Sinbad did the same thing. Popped the screen out and was head and shoulders out the window after the crackhead neighbor. I wasn't home either but the guy tried to throw a biscut inside so he could close the window. Sinbad wanted no part of that. He hated that guy for good reason. Theres no open screens or screens at all in our house. We open from the top if we want to. Halo really does back down from the other dogs. No snarls or anything. Just a look makes him stop. I know we are lucky so far and the day will come that he changes. He will know who is boss here and keep respecting the boundaries. He did try to break out of our van window though. LOL.
