Cleft palate puppies in large breeds, Surgery?? Maintenance

             I have a Newfie who is 7mos old and the surgeon belives he can successfully close it.  Anyone have the surgery done on their big breed??  Successful the first time.???   Anyone with an older dog that didnt have surgery and is doing just fine???
