Truly, a great crew you have there! Strider is one handsome dog. Were there other babies from his litter? I'd love to hear his story. I am really drawn to danes and wolfhounds and mixes of them who end up in shelters at such a young age. They are such amazing creatures. Thanks for sharing pictures!!

Were there other babies from his litter? I'd love to hear his story.
 ;D

I found him, with the help of a dane website pal from Texas, on petfinder. His Mom was a full bred Irish wolfhound and Dad was a mantle dane. The owner of the mom had moved to Florida, and left her pregnant with mentally challanged neighbor, who didn't have a clue how to take care of her, or the dane. When he figured out the guy wasn't coming back he dumped them on a back road in December, in Illinios. She had 13 puppies in a culvert, and the male stayed with her. After a really bad snowstorm, the neighbor had an attack of guilt so he took animal control to where he had dumped them. They found the IW in the culvert with 10 live pups and three dead of exposure. She was starving, dehydrated and very near death herself. The male dane was found on the road, dead from being hit by a car. animal control sent the IW Mom to the vet hospital and hand raised the pups. All 10 survived, and there were three left when we showed up and adopted Strider. The remaining two were taken by Gentle Giants, and I pray they were adopted quickly. Mom was taken by an IW rescue. Although animal control told us Strider was 7 weeks old, my vet and his teeth say he was closer to 5 weeks when we got him home. He was scheduled to be euthenized that night.
So that is his story, and it has a happy ending. ;D

He's right around 10 months now, tina. And smack in the middle of those terrible hyper/misbehaving/I'm not listening to anybody teens. It makes for some interesting days.
