Mokey's secret!!! Tongue spots!!!

Well, just when I thought I knew Mokey, I snapped a picture of her jumping up for a treat. When the picture came up on my computer screen, I discovered Mokey's little secret... the bottom of her tongue has black spots!!!  :o

After further investigation I also found black spots on the top of her tongue near the back. I can't believe she would keep something like this from me!! ;)

Anyone know anything about black spotted tongues? Is it just a random ocurrance? It just adds to the mystery of Mokey...

I know some labs have black spots on their tongues. I don't know if it really means anything. I had labs growing up and all of them had the black spots. I come from a family full of hunters and they always told me that the black spots means they're good hunters. Maybe Mokey is part lab. Just a guess though.

LOL she is cute, maybe this confirms my guess that she is a Pyr/Lab mix.

AAAWWWWWWWW!!  What a baby doll!!  She's so adorable, that face is so sweet and innocent!  I had a lab/chow mix that had black spots on her tongue, but I think Chow Chow's have black tongues.

HOLY COW! I never would have guessed all those breeds!

It was funny at the vet's office they were like, "uh... is that a Lab or a Pyr???"

Actually, only chows and shar peis have all-black tongues (although a purebred may also have pink on their tongue instead of solid black or blue). The other breeds are known to have black pigmented spots on their tongues, especially german shepherds and labs.

LOL she is a mystery. She is cute though.  When I was trying to figure out what Dilbert was, in my research I found out that Pyrs have black lips and the roof of there tongue is black as well. Oh and I was looking at pictures that a girl from my pyr list sent me and she has a Pyr that she got from a pet store. He has shorter hair like Mokey. I'll post the pics of him and you'll see how much they look alike. He is a doll, and he is huge!

Yes, I would love to see pictures!
I just checked the roof of her mouth and it is black, but her gums are pink, it's rather adorable! I don't think I can get a good picture of that!! :D Black lips too. Oh I do love her.

Wow, Nina, he is pretty! I haven't ever heard of a short-haired Pyr, but I hope Mokey grows up to look like that handsome fella! Thanks for posting those!

I can see that she has some characteristic s of the lab and the Pyr. I think she is going to look very much like Zeus when she gets bigger. they look so much alike now, when you compare the pic of him at 4 months and of Mokey now.

Hobo's got tongue spots.  He's a Chinook, but they're odd balls anyways.  They don't have a strict standard, but they're working dogs, not show dogs so it's not really a big deal with them.

Bear has spots on his tongue too....hmm.... his sniffer doesn't work well on most days and neither do his eyes so I think the tongue/hunter thing is out of the question for him.  ;D

Zoey's tounge is all pink, but BooBoo (lab/wolfhound mix), the other dog in my life, has some spots on his.

 :P
