bug bites or what?
« on: October 20, 2005, 08:36:07 pm »
We have been keeping an eye on Sunny's chest because he has these small raised red areas that have crusted over.  He keeps getting more, but we don't know what it is from.  We take him to the vet on the 3rd, but they don't have an opening before that.  He just got a shot Tuesday and hook worm medicine.  We haven't put his flea medicine on him yet because we didn't know if the shot and hook worm medicine would be too much for him all at once.   ???  :'(

I love your avatar, sooooo cute!!  I'm not going to be much help, but maybe someone else has some ideas as to what it could be.  If it's allergies I may be able to help with that but until you know for sure I can't really help, sorry.  Is there anyway you could take a picture of the bumps and post it so we can see what they look like?  That might help a bit.  Your best bet is to get him to the Dr. and get a skin scraping done, which it already sounds like you're doing.  Good luck and keep us posted!

Our dogs get the same thing, but on their ears mostly. I don't know if it is the same thing, but we found when we let our dogs outside, the flys were biting them. :( Do you think that is what it could be? The vet will probably know if nothing else.

Does it look anything like this?  (CAUTION PUPPY PRIVATES!)

He got this from laying on a red ant hill.  Because he's dumb.

He got these from black fly bites.

I'll try to get a picture of it tonight.  It is hard to get a picture of it though because its under his fur.  his skin is red, but the scab like or whatever it is covering it is like a yellowish brownish color.  I haven't seen any ant hills in our yard, but that doesn't mean they aren't there.  In SC we have biting gnats and mosquitos.  I'll try to take the picture tonight when I get off work.  Thank you for everyone's help!

Sounds like a staph infection.  My ex's lab would get that all the time.  Best bet is to go to the vet and get antibiotics.
Thanks,

I'd vote for Cooties.

Rocky had a staph infection that was pretty stubborn. He was on Keflex for 3 weeks and it finally went away.  It looked like what you are describing.  Good luck!

I'm LMAO.  I haven't heard that term in years.

Raven was getting bites under her fur all summer and she would scratch them so hard she would get these crusty feeling bumps near her rear end.  When the scabs fell away, it looked kind of like a pinhole.  Sounds like bug bites though.  It's been a bad year for all types of biting inscects.  Poor puppies. :'(

Sanity and his littermates had minor staph infections.  His mother had a HORRIBLE one, her face was falling off.  I've never seen a middle of the road case, just those two.

I'm sorry Tina :(  Actually I use that pic alot when I get people who don't feel like taking their dog to the vet for "Minor" things.  "It'll take care of itself, dogs are made that way so they could survive in the wild".  No.  No it won't.

Took sunny to the vet and she said it is just bug bites.  Still don't know what type of bug, but at least I know how to treat them! :)
