I need HELP please!

Ok My boyfriend and i just got a wiemeranar.  Yes and if yall were wondering she is very high energy,  but i love it.  Ok my question is she has separation anxiety bad.  I am a dog trainer by profession and i cannot help this condition at all.  I feel like a bad mom.  I researched the breed alot before i actually got one and i know alot of methods to help with separation anxiety but of course i picked the baby that all those methods do not help at all.  Has anyone ever had a dog with separtion anxiety and if so how did you help it.

I don't think I can help, but you have my sympathy.  I usually give the Newfs a huge meaty bone, just as I walk out the door so they are always glad to see me go.

Yea i have tried that andd she will not touch it until we get home.  than she wont leave it alone

I guess it depends on how badly she has it.  With my female, she was a laundry and garbage digger, in which case kenneling helped with that.  She no longer does it, which is great, but at the time, it was my only option.

If she's the type to fling herself against the kennel or try to chew thru it, I might try an herbal remedy, such as Bach's flower essenses.  Just a thought.

It is a breed trait in Weims,  I havent met one that doesnt suffer from it to be honest However, she is a beautiful dog....my brother and his wife has one...she is 9 and still moves like a pup and if her momma leaves the room Jenga will find her and pace unti lshe does...

i wonder if it is the breeding...bec ause i hear of it more and more and more

My chihuahua had separation just like that. She'd chew through walls and kennels. Once I got her a friend to play with though, she calmed down quite a bit.

I agree about being a possible breed trait.  I have not met a weim that doesn't suffer from separation anxiety.  But they are fairly high strung dogs to begin with, so I suppose they just can't help it.

Hi Amber,   I though about your new baby all night.  Do you think a kids playpen filled with stuff toys and treats would work.  I know Sugar Bear hated his evil crate the one night he was in it but loved his playpen.  He had a special towel that we would cuddle with.  He was a happy boy if I had on his CD's, the ceiling fan, and his towel.  He even had a second playpen at work.

Zoey didn't have extreme anxiety, but she did have some seperation anxiety when she was little - she was used to having me home with her, so whenever I left, she would cry. Whether it was going to the other room, doing yard work, or leaving the house - she didn't destroy things, just cried and cried.... We solved it by leaving a tv on for her, giving her toys/chews, and giving her something 'me-scented' to cuddle up with. That really helped, and then eventually she grew out of it.

I hope that you can help curb the seperation anxiety soon. I know things must be really difficult right now.

ANd I agree Ang, that play pen with Sugar Bear in it is the cutest thing ever!

The story is that Sugar Bear got his bottom jaw stuck on the crate door the very first night home.  The sound of his cry was so very sad, that the next day my hubby was in his shop building our baby boy a playpen bed.  Then that one was so great I had him build one I could put by my desk at work.  Now Dixie jumped out of it is seconds.

Well i did it i built a play pen and she wants nothing to do with it.  Now winston on the other hand he wont get out of it.  i keep telling him that he is too big and that is the baby's bed but he doesnt care.

Winston wants to be the baby!  Hehehe, now you know not to do any of my ideas, and that was my one idea for the day
