Crede's new toy
« on: November 08, 2005, 10:24:43 am »
We got our shipment from Petsmart yesterday and I had bought Crede this stuffed goose that "honks".  Thought he'd go ape for it, but no...he gently took it by the head and licked it to death.

We also got him a huge thick rawhide, but I noticed it was made in Argentina.  Is it still true that rawhides made outside the U.S. contain toxins like formaldahyde?  I'm wondering whether or not I should let him have it.  And I'm also wondering why I didn't look into where it came from before I bought it.  {{hitting self on head with rolled-up newspaper}}

I only give rawhides to Sophie that are made in the USA. I don't trust them from other countries where the standards are not as high.  Target has a nice select of USA made rawhides for a decent price.

GAH!  That's what I thought.  Grrrrr....     I think I'm going to send an email to Petsmart telling them that they need to list information on where the rawhides are from, since there's reason for concern.

Hmmm, has anyone used treats or rawhides from Merrick?  (http://www.merrickpetcare.com/)  Their products are all US made, prices are reasonable AND free shipping...any one have experience with this company?

I love Merrick products!!  We have had a bunch of their bones and use their wet food on top of Sophie's dry food in the mornings.  Don't be fooled by the 'free shipping' their products cost more on the website then they do in a store.  Their canned food costs $2.55 on the website but I can buy it at my local feed store for $1.65 a can!  So I would first try to find it locally. A store that carries their food usually carry bones also.   If you can not find something then go ahead an order online, even with the bumped up prices they are still not that bad.  Sophie loves the G.I. bones, the General Panton, and the Tank.

I had never heard that about rawhides made outside the U.S. You can bet I'll be checking all the labels from now on, though!
