Sometimes nature is cruel but there is also a beauty in that cruelty. The alligator, as one of the ultimate predators, can fall victim to the kind of implemented 'team work' strategy which is possible due to the pack mentality and social structure of canines.  In the aftermath of the hurricanes in Louisiana dogs were left stranded and because of extreme hunger  they reverted to their wild instincts and were forced to hunt in packs for food. See the remarkable photograph below, courtesy of Nature Magazine, of how a pack of dogs overcame the odds and subdued this vicious predator.  Be careful not to have children around when you look at this photo, or do not look if you're squeamish!

"If you pick up a starving dog and make him prosperous, he will not bite you. This is the principle difference between dog and man." -- Mark Twain

This actually reminded me of a hoax that was started Post-Katrina.  These images are pretty crazy and are real but the story was embellished.  It's kinda sad that such an amazing creature had to be killed.  Check it out at:

Oh, my.  If they can take down an alligator of that size, just IMAGINE what they'd do to a Pooh bear!

Oh, the Humanity!!  ;D

Those dogs, wild and vicious as they doubtless are (;)), were lucky that they encountered such a little 'gator.  If they had met a big one, it would have eaten them for lunch.

I think they need a bigger pack to take down a really nice meal, but I don't think they are very hungry.  Or did they just start?  They were just chewing on the skin instead of going straight for the "stuffing."  :P
