I would suggest doing an on-line search and then interviewing various breeders.  Once you narrow it down to your top choices (maybe 5) check the parent's health on the OFA site...how many health checks the parents have had.  Once you get it down to maybe 2 to 3, call the Health and Longevity Committee  through the Newfoundland Club of America and just double check your choices.  Then cross your fingers and just wait!  I think there are many breeders doing a tremendous job and once you pick your breeder, stay in contact with them!  With my two Newfs, (different breeders:  one in New York and one in Texas) we email usually at least once a month.  I send pictures and they keep me informed about the health of the parents and the siblings.  If you need more information, you can pm me!  Good luck!!! ;D

Newflvr has TONS of knowledge in this area and gives great advice. I suggest PMing her and tapping her for advice. I did, and I feel much more prepared for the pup I'll be bringing home sometime in the future! I think that her suggestion of the Newf Club of America is great, and she also suggested to me to join my local Newf club.

And, as an aside, read Rhoda Lerman's book, "In the Company of Newfies" its really good and what spurred me into checking out the breed more.

I can't wait! The b-friend and I were just sitting around and we googled "Newf puppies" and just ooh'd and aaah'd over their cuteness! hehehehe! Oh, BTW, I guess Rhoda's last breeding didn't take. Maybe she won't have a litter until I'm ready! hehehe! There will definitely be a BIG celebration when Petunia comes home!
