Hi Everyone,
Thanks for your additional feedback. While we had hoped to be able to find common ground on the issue of facilitating local shelter adoptions on eBay.com, it appears that sentiment among our members is strongly going the other way. In short, the dominant point of view we’ve heard is that you do not want pet listings – whether for adoption from shelters or from commercial breeders – on eBay.com. Consequently, we will not pursue the idea further.
We have initiated a preliminary discussion with Betsy Saul, President of Petfinder.com – a site that many of you suggested – to talk about possible ways we might work together. We will let you know what we find out.
Sincerely,
Lori

Subject: Selling Animals on eBay

This concept is very disturbing to me.
Dogs, Cats & other animals are slaughtered each and every day in our local shelters and "humane" societies. There are more pets than there are people that want them.
Selling pets on eBay will only promote the BYB (Backyard Breeders) to produce and SELL (for profit) more unwanted animals that alot of them will be slaughtered too.
Lets promote getting these animals out of the slaughter houses and out of the rescue organizations and into a warm, friendly home like yours and mine.
I have heard quite a bit of feedback on numerous message boards that I am a member of stating that eBay is re-considering the idea of SELLING animals on eBay.
Can you please verify this fact with me? I would greatly appreciate it.
Sincerely,
Barbara Laird
