Hi. I'm new to Big Paws Only. A friend that does not have dogs sent me a link to the site. She has been watching my "kids" over the past few years and thought that this would be the perfect place for us. I have seven dogs all together, two of which are not Big Paw material. Those would be my Border Collie, Abbie and my- we really are not sure what after almost 9 years-Kiki. Casey - Lab/samoyed mix would be our first sort of big paws and then we have our four shilohs. Titan, Maveric, Noodles and Ryder. Ti is the oldest at 2 1/2 and Ryder the youngest at 15 months. I'm not a breeder and all of mine with the exception of Ryder, for another month or so, are either spayed or neutered.

Hello.  I hope to see tons of photos and read many stories about your canine family...I, too, have a mixed breed in my household...Lo u.  He is the goofy one dressed as Elvis in the costume contest.  He also has his own profile page.  He is rott/lab and a sweet, friendly, healthy boy of nearly eight years old.

Hi and I'm glad you like the name. Actually, we got her when she was 6 months old and since she was responding to Noodles we just stuck with it. It fits her somehow. We call her Doodle Bug too.  As soon as I get the gist of the site down I'll put up more pictures. In the meantime Noodles and all the kids can be seen at http:MMilavec.photo site.com   We are taking a few of them to the Pa. State Special Olympic summer games this weekend so by next week I hope I have some new pictures of Casey, Maveric and Ryder up. Casey is certified for therepy work and needs to get out, Maveric is my sisters "baby" and she is an athlete and Ryder is the baby (lol) and in training so to speak. Ti will be at home with the girls protecting them unless he sees a bunny,  in which case he will hide in the tub or shower, then Abbie, Noodles and Kiki will take over. OK, I lied. Kiki won't do anything, she does not like to get wet or dirty. Abbie will heard toads and Noodles will be furthering her education in excavation.
I started going through a lot of the pictures. All I can say is WOW ! It is nice to find a site that seems to be built for everyone.

You have such a house full....... I love alllll the names and the way you describe them, I was laughing my way off the chair  ;D I can so picture them when they are hiding in the tub, heard toads or the preppy kiki hehe. I am so looking forward to hear more about the work your dogs do and see bunches of pics.

And yes this is a great place, it is hard to not feel at home here. A lot of us here, have serious problems now, our homes are dirty, our husbands wear wrinkly clothes, our kids eat kibbles and our eyes are turning square from too much time on BPO  :o Ill give you 10 days.....heheh e so get whatever you need done, now, then it will be too late  ;)

Marit,
Wow, and human kids too? I'd be huffing and puffing and I'm not sure if it would be from the weather. my kids are older and on their own. Well, one is half way there anyway. Stories, just wait...... ;D  My sister gives me quite a bit to talk about.
If it makes you feel any better it is miserable in the Pa. mountains too. No one has wanted to eat for the past two days and it seems like they are going through a second "lets dump hair all over". I honestly think Casey is the biggest offender and she has the shortest hair. Thank you to whoever invented the Furminator I only need to vacume twice a day now, and I'm not a neat freak.

Okay so heres the deal......I have had dogs for like 25 years and lots of them and lots and lots and looooots of hair. And I have NEVER heard of a furminator  :P :o What is that????? (ohhhh and the fact that I used to groom for 10 years makes me even more of a retard lol)

Kiki said "hey watch it with the preppy thing ! If anything I was a blond cheerleader that drove a rag top at 16 in my other life"  I think it all stems from my husband watcing dog shows on TV with her and telling her that she is more beautiful than any other.  When she needs a reality check I point out the fact that she snores so bad she sounds like she is going to suck her whole face up her nose and her sister was a real redhead  :o

It this cross between a rake and a flea comb looking thing that takes out all of the undercoat - here' the magic part- without pulling. Yea !! The hair rolls right off of them. It is weird looking. When it came in the mail I took one looik at it and slapped myself as I was yelling SUCKER. I figured that since i paid for it I may as well try it. Wa-la I love it. No pulling with their coats = good deal. I think I ordered it from pet edge. Last year they had a system available to groomers but it had chemicals and stuff, this is just the comb thingy. Looks weird but works.   I have a friend that's a groomer, she is starting to hate it- not the dogs , the people.

It is a couple of years since I quit my grooming, but I still get all the catalogs. What was used back then was slickers, underwool rakes and knives and all kinds of brushes and combs. I take it this must be something new???? The way you describe it though, it sounds great. the mastiffs we have dont have much hair, so just smoth brushes and damp clothes to do the daily grooming, the husky is bad though, with all his undercoat, when he is blowing it takes hours and hours for weeks and weeks to get rid off it, and he never really stops shedding. The golden mix is almost as bad, but she sheds the long top coat so a little different, I will take a look in petedges catalog as soon as I get off here.

Sooooo kiki doesnt like to be called preppy ,hmmmmm why does that make me picturing her even more so hehe. It sounds like shes got her daddy around her little paw.........An d after all being a blond, she could I am sure knows she is the prettiest of them all, when watching the fancy dog shows  ::) ;D

It came out last year I think. When it first came out it was part of a bathing systm and was sold on it's own site. Now you can get it through www.dog.com   (thought it was pet edge but I checked) www.dog.com is Dog Outfitters.  When they first came out they were only selling the little? ones but now they have one that's 6" long  ;D . I know it looks weird but I swear it works, cuts grooming time in half at least.
Oh - Kiki isn't really a blond, she just wants to be one. Her sister really was a redhead though. That's why after all this time we strill can't figure out what all is in this mix. We tell everone that she is a Bat Eared Fox Hound from the Serengetti. -----Way to much Discovery channel at one point.

Marit,

Kinda off topic, but what kind of parrot do you have?  My ex-husband and I had a Blue-Headed Pionus, but when we divorced, I got the dog and he got the parrot...   I wanted both, but I had to be fair...  :(
