New Babys!!!
« on: December 29, 2005, 04:58:52 pm »
Here are some pictures of our new family members. I really am amazed at the size of these babys and how developed they are. I didnt know that baby Guinies were so independent when first born. These little guys were born sometime durring the night (2 nights ago) and are running all over and look just like Daddy. Im not to fond of rodents but these guys are really quite cute.

Look at the size of those babys beside Mom. I feel sorry for her. Her belly was huge.
Anyone have any advice?? I took the Dad out of the cage cause apparently the female can get pregnant again right away. Hope she didnt get caught again already. :o Im sure it cant be good for her to get pregnant again. Is there anything special I should be feeding them??

I would take them but I'm scared of them.  They are huge and cute though.  I had hamsters when I was little and I took the dad out but one of the babies got the mom pregnant.  You might need to see if either baby is male and put males with males and females with females.  Good luck sexing the little beasts.
Thanks,

They are rodents, they are meant to survive any condition.  I guess "You gotta do what you gotta do." really applies to them.

Holy Moley!  They are so big for only being a few days old!

I had hamsters when I was little.  There were babies.
Then there weren't.    Mom got hungry.  :-[
They were teeny....nothi ng like your babies.

Try googling for info on them.

Oh.....and CONGRATS!!!

EWWWWW Thats nasty. Guess Guinny would be STUFFED if she decided to eat these guys. My sister had white mice when we were in our 20's and they just reproduced like crazy. I hated those things. Naked little rodents are just  YUCK!! These babys are really cute though. Ill go google a bit on them.

Wow, they are so big for only being a few days old.

As far as the breeding, separating them is a good idea.  I'm guessing they are like rabbits.  The females can get pregnant I believe w/i an hour of so of giving birth.  And they become sexually active at a very young age.

Seperate the males from momma at 3 weeks! That's when they can start breeding and I'd suggest getting momma and daddy fixed(quite common).

Ok with that said, I'm going to ask my mom if I can have a male because my guinea pig, Squishy, is really lonely and I would like to get him a friend. ;)

Here's the best information you can ever get about guinea pigs.

http://guinealynx.info/

They have a forum, too. But be warned, they are very pro-rescue and do not like breeding/breeders
