When do St.s stop growing??
« on: January 06, 2006, 12:17:38 am »
I was just looking through some old pictures and found one from September 05. I knew Judge had grown a bit but looking at the pictures it seems like quite a bit. I did get him fixed so I guess that is likely the reason but I was wondering if anyone knows the age that St.s stop growing?
Here are 2 pictures one from Sept. 05 and one from the other day.

Saints don't reach full maturity until they are 2 years old and some may take even longer  :o

Your St. looks really big. When was she born?
Zoey's birthday is June 10, 2004, so she is 19 months old now. We did our best to slow her growth but boy did she grow like a weed!

The growth plates close around 2 years of age - factors can cause this to occur sooner, or delay it longer but this is generally the time.  This means the long bones are done growing and the dog has reached maximum height; however, the dog will continue to "fill out" in girth as seen in the chest and head for up to an additional 2 years.  If you look at a male saint at 2 years and again at 4 years, you will see filling out and maturity differences.
