In Theaters Now...
« on: January 08, 2006, 07:34:28 pm »
What do you all think of the current movies out in theaters right now (1/6/06)?  I really want to go see Narnia soon because I read the book and I have heard lots of good things about it.  Is the animation believeable or just OK?  I have heard mixed reviews about King Kong but that might be worth watching, do the 3 hours go by fast?  Munich looks really good, but I don't know anybody who's seen it.  Is it as intense as the commercials make it out to be?  Brokeback Mountain...... ..  uh, I think I'll skip that one.  The hype for it right now is getting rediculous.  The most important movie in the last decade?  Oookaaay....

I saw Hostel last night and it was actually pretty good.  It's not a non-stop gorefest necessarily, but the gory scenes that are in it are pretty disturbing and intense.  There's actually some laughs in it as well, beautiful shots of the European countryside and a lot of tasteful, full frontal nudity.  Overall, I thought it was pretty good but it could wait for home viewing.  Fill me in folks or just share your reviews of any current movies.  ;)

Narnia was REALLY good. A lot better than the first one. The animation was good, but could have been better... I saw it twice, and give it 2 thumbs up

I have heard nothing but good reviews for King Kong, but haven't seen it for myself yet... can wait for it to come out on dvd  :)

I saw Narnia and liked it....not as much as the book (not surprising, I usually like the books more than the movie) but it was a nice way to spend a Sunday afternoon. (I LOVED the latest Harry Potter!!!)  My husband and son saw Munich.  Husband did NOT like it.  He just thought it was way TOO depressing.  Son thought it was okay.  Husband and boys saw King Kong and LOVED the special effects (I just can't go to sad animal movies...even if the animals aren't real ::).  I end up sobbing if the an animal stubs his toe.....never mind what happens to Kong!)  My daughter who lives in SF saw Brokeback Mtn. and loved it....but then again she lives in SF ;D ;D

Thanks for the advice on Hostel...yet another one I'll skip.  I saw The Family Stone and loved it...very cute! and Rumour Has It....again, very cute, not deep but entertaining; and finally saw The Producers last night and we all loved it!

There you have it!  Middle-aged-wimpy-woman movie review!!! ;D

Narnia ia amazing! I just saw it the other night and it has quickly become a favorite for me! I can't wait to buy the movie. I read the book when I was a child, so I barely remebered the story line. I have heard from other people who read the book before the movie came out that they thought the movie could have been better. Either way- Narnia is a must see, for all ages!

I did see Brokeback Mountain, I actually went to preview playing before it was released. I thought that it was a beautiful story, sad but beautiful. About it being a monuemental movie, I think that it is. I went to this movie with two gay friends (I am straight). This was the first movie that these two men had ever gone to see about a gay love story that wasn't something rented in the back corner of some video store, let alone a blockbuster movie. Besides how monumental this is to the gay culture and society, Heath Ledger does a phenomenal job, as does Jake Gyllenhaal. I won't recommend this movie to everyone because not every one is comfortable with this content matter, but if you want to see a beautiful love story, and are ok with homosexuality, CHECK IT OUT!

Narnia is really good. It's kind of like lord of the rings for kids. I don't usually like scifi/fantasy movies and I enjoyed it.

I saw 'Rumor Has It' with my mom and it is a pretty cute chick-flick - she liked it more than I did, but I thought it was pretty funny and original.

We went to 'Fun with Dick and Jane' last week and I enjoyed it but Dan hated it. It kind of drags on for the first half, but once it gets going it is really funny. They took an old movie about a suburban family that turns to petty crime after the husband gets fired, and turned it into a modern story spoofing enron and such.

What I can't wait to see is the producers. I always wanted to see the Broadway show and it looks hillarious.

Narnia was great! I didn't think I would enjoy it as much as I did, great special effects.

Narnia rocked! I saw it with Nicole and Molly(and other people). I loved it! Can't wait to get it on dvd.

Hostel, well it sucked, really and all my friends agree with me, basically half porn, half killing. We didn't like it at all...

I just saw Harry Potter 4 and I really liked it, but I love the books and Daniel Radcliffe(apparently I'm into people named Daniel :P) so of course I'm going to say that!

Saw King Kong a few weeks ago and it was OK I thought it lagged on a bit and took a while for the story to pick up. Really good special effects though. And Harry Potter 4, which I loved but the book was better.

And for movies that we've rented, Dark Water was crap, Into the Blue was OK, it was better than Dark Water. The Transporter 2 was OK. The exorcism of Emily Rose, wasn't what I had hoped, I thought it would be scary but it wasn't.  And the best one was the Constant Gardner. All the others put it this way I am glad I didn't see them in theater.

I wouldn't go that far.  Aside from the bloodlust, the movie was pretty right on about young American men traveling in Europe.  Have you ever backpacked around Europe and stayed in Hostels?  It's a big hookup factory.  But like I said, the movie was good not great.  It's funny how people enjoy different movies.  Some people want blood and sex, some people want to see big apes climbing skyscrapers, some people want to be drawn into the corrupt world of oil companies, some people want to be inspired by the forbidden love between two gay cowboys.  No two people are exactly the same.  But I think it's a fair assumption that everyone likes Narnia.  I know what I'm going to see on Sunday.  ;)
