I find it frustrating and fascinating that our big dogs are not viewed as dogs by so many people. Things they would never dream of saying to a goldie or yorkie owner fly out of their mouths with hurtful abandon. My husband and I have a hypothesis that a lot of dog owners feel they have to justify why they do not own a giant breed or on a subconcious level they feel envious  so they insult our dog to make themselves feel better.

That just burns me up!! What nerve! I'm feeling your frustration, because just the other day on a doberman forum I was on, someone started a BIG issue about how my dog's ears werent cut the same style as their dog was, and flat out told me that my dog was "unattractive"!!!!ooooohhhh, that made me M*A*D!!! SO I know how you feel when people who think they know just totally everything will start to pick your dog apart, and they dont have a clue what they are talking about!  I personally LOVE the name Bear--That's what my wife and I call each other instead of dear (deer)! Just ignore the ignorant woman and give your big ol' Bear a big ol' bear hug for me!!!

When will these jerks get it, they are talking about our kids. I would not say those things about someones house plants.  We all love Bear and know what a great looking boy he is.

Sounds like maybe she forgot to take her pills, or broke out of a mental institution.  Someone has to be a bit off to do something like that.  Step on her foot next time bear, and she if she thinks he's too small :)

It is amazing the number of people that feel entirely justified in airing their negative opinions abot our babies. You were way too nice. I'd have told her that if I actually cared about her opinion I might have been interested, but since I don't, shove off. Bear lifting as leg would have been redundant. She was already "all wet."

I can't believe what I have read. From the photos I have seen of Bear I would say he was a stunning boy.... I would be very proud to be his owner :). And in the 10 years I have owned Newfs I have never seen one with fur down to the floor!!!

I reckon the woman was just jealous because he isn't hers.

I have had people come up to me and tell me my spaniel is far too far, when I have been out socialising a 4 month old brown Newf. I have also been asked if it was an unclipped poodle!!

Whether show dogs, working dogs or just companions, we all own the best dogs in the world... Just don't forget that ;)
