I wish I saw more Pictures from Iraq like This
« on: January 30, 2006, 02:18:25 pm »
I received this picture as well as some others from a friend via email and thought it was a very moving image worth sharing.  In a perfect world, there really would be more kitten petting and less killing.

That picture really is moving. My boyfriend is stationed at Fort Knox until December, when he is being deployed to Iraq.  I swear that picture could be him! He adores cats, he pays more attention to my kitties than he does to me!! Lol. Seriously though he has such a kind heart, just like many of our soldiers do. I think sometimes people lose track of what is really going on in our world, and pictures like this have that subtle reminder that our men, our brothers, nephews, sons, grandsons, uncles, brothers, fiances, and boyfriends are out there fighting for our freedom. Not just fighting for our freedom, but everything we believe in, including things that have brought us all together like our love for animals, that could so easily be taken away from us if we had a different government, or lived in another country. This picture really just says to me...freedom isn't free.
Sorry if this sounds political guys, it's just so close to my heart  :'(

Just like the song from the movie Team America says:

"Freedom isn't free, it costs a hefty f**king fee!"

I can't help but think about the heavy toll this is taking on the animals of Iraq and in Afghanistan.  They already live in a part of the world that historically, doesn't value animal life like Western culture does and now they are in the middle of a war.  I have read stories that soldiers have told that are pretty unbelievable, like cats that are so hungry that they have taken refuge inside the corpses of dead Iraqis and eaten them.  Pretty sad.  Then you have all the animals in zoos who are suffering as well.  War is h*ll for humans and animals too.  :(
