Need ideas for dog party games
« on: February 18, 2006, 12:27:48 pm »
One of the hats I wear in my work is party planner for doggy birthday parties. I have a few standard games we play, like 'trainer says', musical sits, etc., and the pet owners all enjoy those. But I feel like those games are getting stale and boring. Do any of you have ideas for new games we can play? Bearing in mind that not all of the dogs have obedience training: many of them don't know any command other than sit or lie down! Thanks!

Bobbing for hot dogs is always a favorite!

some sort of costume contest would be cool and you could have different catagories for prizes.

that's a really good idea, especially since people enjoy dressing their dogs up so much. I am having a birthday party for Jack at PetsMart next month, so may try that. thanks!

::) OF COURSE! I should have thought of that! We've done bobbing for biscuits, but hot dogs would be much funnier and more fun. woofs and thanks, wholly paws

A fun one we played at a Halloween party was TIC TAC DOG. Just get some rope and map out a tic tac toe board. Have half the players be Sits and Half the players be Downs and play just like the game.

Copy Cat is another fun one. Break every one into 2 teams. The first team chooses a player (and their dog) to do a trick or a command, then the other team has to find someone on their team that can do the same trick with their dog.

Have fun!

Thanks, Stacie. Both of those sound like fun. We have a birthday party coming up on March 12th, and I am going to choose a couple of new games to try then. The ideas that have been suggested so far sound great.

I don't think every PetsMart does it, but here in Mobile we do a few every year.If one of the dogs in obedience class happens to be having a birthday, we use that as a prime opportunity for socialization time. It's a lot of fun, and customers get a new appreciation for neat things to do with their dogs.

At the dog park we go to, they had a halloween party and played doggy limbo.  However, we left before that started and didn't get a chance to see how it went.
