Validation for designer puppies...what next?
« on: February 18, 2006, 12:49:46 pm »
This is a post from Newf-L from a woman who does rescue and is in the process of rescuing 8 Newfs from a puppy mill.  A miller who is 'sick of the breed' and wants out.  There was also an auction of dogs...the Newfs were so frightened that they had to be 'dumped' out of their dog houses to be auctioned off...$475 a piece.  Heartbreaking!

"So much for AKC trying to cut down on puppy mills....today they showed just how much they were in bed together. At some point during the auction, the AKC rep came up to the podium and made a speel about how APR dogs can be registered with AKC with no problem. For those of you unfamiliar, APR is a lesser quality club, but makes it very easy to 'paper' your dogs/pups, compared to AKC.

Then there is American Hybrid Association. For papering MUTTS.  You 'MUST have a purebred mom and a purebred dad to be registered with AHA...for example, a purebred pug momma and a purebred beagle dad, and you now have an AHA 'registered' Puggle.' "

Just goes to show how it is about the money, not the dogs for 90% of the people involved in the dog world. Ugh.

Those poor newfs...it's horrendous that people that sick are allowed to own pets...and then for them to be auctioned off...that's even worse...those people should be shot.

Yeah, it made me sick too!  I can't believe that the AKC can condone this!

Very sad story! It sure sounds like its all about the money to me! My daughter did her school speach this year on Puppy mills, She is in grade 6. I think she taught her class mates alot and she also learned alot herself!
Its a horrible industry that should be stopped!

This is one of the main reasons I chose the Leonberger. I love that they have strict breeding regulations. Unfortunatly Leonbergers will be recognized by the AKC within the next two years.

This is horrible!  I hope the silver lining in this tragedy is that those pups find loving homes. :'(
I am kind of a big deal!
