Well, since I'm the former prez (for 5 years) and current VP, I'd have to say my favorite rescue is the Humane Society of Houma-Terrebonne. I'm probably VERY biases, but I'm very proud of the enormous volume of rescues we've been responsible for - both in our organization and coordinating with the local parish-owned animal shelter and other local and regional rescue organizations. We've found homes for dogs and cats all over the U.S. (we're in Louisiana) including Nebraska, Oregon, New Jersey, Delaware, New Mexico, Mississippi, Florida and Texas to name just a few! In the last 5 years I have personally fostered almost 100 dogs and cats and our organization has directly fostered and adopted approx. 250 dogs and cats. We make sure they are all vaccinated, health checked, treated for heartworms and spayed and neutered before (or directly after) they are adopted. Nothing in my life has been more rewarding. I get paid absolutely nothing - but would devote my entire day to it, 7 days a week, if I could.
Our website is: http://www.hsht.petfinder.org or http://groups.yahoo.com/group/HSHT.

Thanks for asking!

Our favorite rescue is www.happytails rescue.com.  We got our rotti girl Bailey from them and they have about 37 rotts that need a forever home.  They also sell holistic stuff.  They have a great web site with success stories and lots of pictures.

Best Friends Animal Society in Kanab, Utah (www.bestfriend s.org).  They have a 3000 acre sanctuary where they take all animals.  They do an AMAZING job.  I've had friends go out and volunteer to help with the animals and were awed by all that was going on!

freetoliveok.c om    Free to Live is a no kill animal sanctuary here in Oklahoma - amazing place!!! They work very hard to place animals - or provide them with a loving place to live out the rest of their lives if they aren't suitable for adoption. This is an excellent place to think of for donations - although I am sure there are places like them in every state - at least I hope there are!! Check out their web site - always fun to see all of the babies and read some of the stories!

Because Earnest had a very lab puppyhood, ( I'd always had Dane puppies- I thought he was insane!) I've been very active on a really nice lab board.
These are the web addresses of some fellow members of that board, they do a marvelous job.
This rescue is just getting started, there were no Lab rescues in Nevada until they started. As a new operation they could certainly use our help:

This is another fine group, AdoptaLab:

This group helps pay medical bills for both strays and owned animals

Rather than a animal rescue group, here is a site, I love and recommended to as many people as I can if they are looking for a pet. http://www.maritimeanimalrescue.com/ It is a web site, that describes the homeless animals in this area and links you to the rescue group caring for them. It is undated on a weekly basis and for the featured animals contains pictures and a description/story on them. They often say how the animal came to be looking for a new home, and in the case of dogs, additional comments as to good with other dogs, cats and kids.

I volunteer at CircleTail (www.circletail .org) CT trains service dogs that are acquired from individual donation, other shelters, and strays.  They also maintain a no kill shelter.  Check them out!

These guys found Strider for me in Illinois even tho they are located in Texas. They are very supportive and have alot of danes for adoption, although their policies are rather tight. They are an excellent resource for dane info and common sense.
