cherry eye
« on: March 25, 2006, 10:38:40 pm »
Hello,
I'm new to this site.  I have a 10 month old great dane puppy with a cherry eye. She's supposed to have the tuck and stitch surgery by a dog opthalmologist and this costs about $1300.  She apparently has a defect in the cartilage of her eyes where they have a curve rather than a T-shape and this increases the cost.  I was wondering if this is more than I should be paying? and also if cherry eye is related to allergies, what tends to be the most commen allergens for great danes...corn, wheat, or something else?
thank you for your help.

I don't think cherry eye is related to allergens.  From what I've seen, it is mostly believe to be caused by a problem with the connective tissue, although there can be other causes.

Can't say whether that price is average or not.  I don't know of anyone that's had that surgery, let alone one with complicating factors.
