What color would he be considered?
« on: April 24, 2006, 10:52:38 pm »
I am just amazed with Cyprus' colors. I noticed that all of you are really good at figuring out what colors the danes are considered. Can anyone help with Moose's color? I will try to post some of the better pictures showing his colors.

His mom was a merle and his dad was a fawniquin. When we got him I was told he was a silver merle, but as he gets older there is a LOT of brown coming out in him. I love him to death no matter what color he is. Just curious as to a name for the color.

OK, I'm changing my vote to Blue Brindle.  It looks like the fawn on his sides is a bit 'stripy'?

Can I have your permission to post his pic on another board and ask their opinions?

Without a few generations pedigree it would be almost impossible to decipher this one, WOW!

I'm clueless on the colors of Danes but I can say that it is a really cool mixture!  He's adorable!  I love his striped look.

Wow, was that an accidental breeding or did someone do it on purpose? A fawnequin is a mismark and shouldn't be bred... so it seems you have a second generation mismark!

I'm not saying he isn't gorgeous! I have a fawnequin myself who I consider to be the most beautiful Great Dane on the planet.  ;) ::)
Your dog is very unique and special and I bet there is not a description of colour anywhere that could describe him. He's a motley!!! :D ;D

He's very handsome, no matter what "color" he is considered to be.

I am not sure if this is correct, but shouldn't merles not be bred either?

Yeah, merles aren't supposed to be bred, the merle gene carries some weird problems sometimes. Here's a quote I found about breeding merles:

"Expect small litters and don't be surprised by a variety of problems if you choose to use this sort of breeding-including others feeling uncomfortable and wondering about your standards and intentions. Many breeders with stud dogs refuse to service merles."

(edited for spelling)

Oh my goodness, he is a little cutie!

have no clue on the coloring.  Maybe more color will come in as he gets older and you will be able to tell?.....since you said he's gotten more fawn marks than he did originally.
