Why We Feed Really Good Food

http://www.fda.gov/cvm/FOI/dfchart.htm

This is a link where you can look at some foods tested for phenobarbitol content in the dog food.  I thought it was interesting.

Glad to see Innova isn't on there.

Thanks for those shocking statistics!

WOW... I am more glad I feed raw... another report more disturbing news is that it indicates that pets are infact in dog food

Just wanted to say that what was being tested for is pentobarbital not Phenobarbital.  Pentobarbital is a barbiturate. Pentobarbital is often used to euthanize dogs and cats.

Phenobarbital is also a barbiturate and used to control seizures.

Just did some checking and it appears that they often use phenobarbital also to euthanize.  Doesn't sound like there is much difference between the two drugs.

There were no premium brands on the list, but that doesn't mean premium brands don't have bad stuff in them. From the list, it looks like grocery store or Wal-Mart selections of food. They all have rendered meat products in them.

Innova doesn't have "by-products" or "meals" in the ingredients, which makes it less likely to have anything bad in it. Furthermore, if they guarantee "human-grade" ingredients, you shouldn't have to worry about it at all.  :)

Ugh I just read that article. I think it might be time to go vegetarian again. I did notice that it was written 16 years ago... maybe things have changed?? A teensy bit??? :-\ ???

You also have to list by product meal if you are using fresh instead of frozen and you are including organ meats.  If you use frozen chicken, which isn't as good btw, you can list it as just chicken.
