Warning.....th is is a whole lot of me blowing off steam.
 >:(
I've been waiting for a package that I ordered online.
I received a tracking number and expected the package on Tuesday.  Tuesday night..no package.  I check online.  There is a notation stating that the package has a POBox address and they are trying to figure out a street address.
My credit card address is a POB but since this item was shipping UPS I provided my home address.  Evidently the shipper didn't look at my notation because they put the POBox on the package.
Why would someone who ships UPS use a POBox on the package??!?!?
So...I call UPS and wait on hold for an eternity. Finally I speak to someone who is very pleasant and changes my address online.  The only issue is that it can't be delivered until Thursday.  That's fine as long as I have it by the weekend.
Today is Thursday.  It's past 8pm.   I don't have a package.   I check online.  My package was delivered at 4:41pm today and left at the side door.  Ok....no truck came down my driveway at 4:41.  There is no package on my porch...and we don't have a side door.   I call UPS again and wait on hold for less than an eternity but still awhile.
They aren't sure where it got delivered because the computer isn't updated with the address information but they want to know if I looked at the side door.   I already explained that I don't have a side door!   GRRRRRR!
I'm told to call back in the morning after 8am so that they can figure out where my package was left.
I'm cranky.  I wonder who has my package....it's a gift for my son.  Something he asked for.  This stinks.

Thanks for letting me vent.

Anything Non-Dog Related / Kitties.....this is my laptop!!!
« on: December 18, 2005, 02:42:59 pm »
The kittens are fascinated by the movement on the laptop screen.
They cover me as I try to lay on the bed and type.
Then they get bored and fall asleep.
Moving them to the bed doesn't work because they scamper right back.
Another week and fostering will be over.  They will go back to the shelter.
That will be so difficult.

Butters is the closest, then Stan, and in the back is Tweak.  Kyle is off camera looking for a place to land.  Luckily the mama doesn't share this interest.

How can I put this kindly.....Dai sy has a lot of skin so she has a lot of folds.
Especially between her back legs  ::) and sometimes the folds on her belly hold moisture.  She cleans it but I don't think it really dries.
So she has these little sore areas.  They almost look like tiny hot spots.  They scab over and when I clean them they weep and the skin looks red.  There is no fur loss and she doesn't mind if I clean them.   If I clean them and put neosporin on them they clear up.
Once they are clear I stop and they come back.
If only she would lay on her back spread eagle like Jilly does everything would air out.  :o

Could these be hot spots?  Or something else?
I'm open to suggestions.

Thanks,
Wendy

Anything Non-Dog Related / Some good news RE:me and epilepsy
« on: December 13, 2005, 07:40:58 am »
HELLO!!!!
I've been dealing with seizures since late summer.   Newly diagnosed and NOT happy with the neurologist I was seeing.   Yesterday I met with a new neurologist who specialized in epilepsy.
The new doctor is SOOOOOOO much better than the other guy.    100 times better.
Hubby also said he felt so much better after we left the appointment with her.
She started off by asking me to tell my story from the beginning.  She said she
had the other doctor's notes but that she wanted to get the story from me
herself. (I liked that a lot)
As I started telling her about the early incidents and first EEG she asked if I felt comfortable with the diagnosis.   I told her the truth....that I am having a hard time believing it.
She said, "I'm going to take the next 10 minutes and go over your EEGs.  I am not just a
neurologist.  I studied 2 additional years in epilepsy so reading EEG results is one of my specialties.  It could be that the eeg shows nothing special or it could show something."    (I liked this a lot too)
She was gone for 10 min.   Hubby told me that he always hopes the best for me but not to get my hopes up too high. It was good that he helped keep my feet on the ground. It was a long 10 minutes for me.  She came back and said that it's definitely seizure activity.  She explained that a normal eeg should look like the letter M written over and over.   My eeg line has triangle points popping up.   That is the seizure activity.  (I liked that she explained this clearly and helpfully)
She really listened to me about facts & feelings....an d we formed a plan TOGETHER.
I'm doubling my med today.   In one week I will have blood work done.  The
following week I call to get the lab results and we will adjust the med accordingly.
If this med doesn't work we will try another.
She provided me with so much good information.  100 times more than the prior doctor.
She gave me a pamphlet and wrote down the type of seizures I am having and the
location in my brain.   She gave me a copy of this 400+ page book on epilepsy.
Overall it was GREAT.
Of course I wish she would have said the eegs were fine and it was all a big mistake but you can't have everything.   She's really nice.
I'm so so so so so glad I switched.
Just wanted to share my good news.

Trying to get Daisy to sit/stay under the tree is impossible.

"I don't wanna stay under the tree." - Daisy

"I wanna be close to you and the camera" -Daisy

"Hey! What's moving under the tree?" -Daisy

Oh....it's Daisy's teeny friend, Tweak!

Anything Non-Dog Related / Signing a check for someone else.
« on: December 07, 2005, 09:26:15 am »
Here's the story....
I'm home and can't drive.  I'm on short term disability due to the seizures.   Last week my direct deposit from work didn't happen and they cut me a check instead.  My husband just called from the post office.  He said my check came in and he's on his way to work.
He works an hour away.   He works 5 min. from our bank.    Tomorrow we are going an hour in the opposite direction because I have a dr. appointment.
I suggested he just sign the check for me so that it can be deposited today.
You'd think I'd asked him to murder someone.   He freaked out.
I was a bit surprised by his reaction.
Maybe I'm way off base.
I'm curious what others think.

Holiday Things / Dear Santa, Daisy wants ......
« on: December 06, 2005, 03:33:53 pm »
....to keep this little foster kitten, Tweak.   Daisy loves her and slobbers on her every chance she gets.
Not sure I'm ready to keep a kitten.

I've had strangers ask if Daisy is a.....
- lab
- lab/Dane
- lab/Weimaraner
- pitbull

And some people insist that she is the dog from Turner and Hooch.  Close...but not the right type of mastiff.

I explain that she is a Neapolitan Mastiff but that is often met with a blank stare so sometimes I don't bother.

How about you?
Do strangers label your dog as a breed that he/she isn't?

« on: December 01, 2005, 03:32:09 am »
Not only do you get to make a snowflake but you can attach a message to it.
You can email the snowflake to someone or let it drift.   People can respond to what you posted.  Kinda cool.

I made a snowflake for you all.

Anything Non-Dog Related / Kittens vaccinated - shaking?
« on: November 26, 2005, 04:33:51 pm »
The kittens I am fostering are 8 weeks now.   We took them in this morning to have the 5 kittens and mom vaccinated.
When we got home I noticed that Kyle was shaking/shivering.    He ate lunch, played and then took a nap.  He stopped shaking once he fell asleep.
Now it's hours later and he started doing it again......and Butters had the same issue.
They've fallen asleep again and all is still.
I called the shelter and they said to keep an eye on them and call if any other symptoms started.

Could this be a result of the vaccinations?   What else might it be?

BTW....other than this the kittens and mom are doing fantastic.
