Great Pyrenees Discussions / Re: Stressful day!...Pictures at last!:)

What beautiful pictures..... I know the chaos of which you speak, and I look forward to it everyday!!! Call me crazy.... but without it, I would just be lost.. I just returned home from the hospital after having surgery.  The entire time during my stay there, I could not rest comfortably because it was just "too darn quiet".. And the minute I was able to walk in the door and be "pounced upon" by both babies.... I was in instant heaven.... Best sleep I had in days!

Mixed Breed Discussion / Re: Puppy eating grass and dirt?
« on: September 10, 2005, 07:17:30 pm »
My dogs both find the appropriate time of eating grass, with a "dirt chaser" is either:  A; when company is over and I can't readily run outside and get on to them,  - or-   B: When I am preparing to go somewhere nice, am in one of my nicest outfits, and they feel the necessity to give me excess love at that point and time!..
I can feel your pain, and wish I had something to offer.... but with past experiences with other dogs... unfortunately. .. it does just take some time for them to grow out of it... and A TON of patience and the ability to laugh for you to make it thru....

I Stood By Your Bed
I stood by your bed last night, I came to have a peep.
I could see that you were crying, You found it hard to sleep.
I whined to you softly as you brushed away a tear,
"It's me, I haven't left you, I'm well, I'm fine, I'm here."

I was close to you at breakfast, I watched you pour the tea,
You were thinking of the many times your hands reached out to me.

I was with you at the shops today, Your arms were getting sore.
I longed to take your parcels, I wish I could do more.

I was with you at my grave today, You tend it with such care.
I want to reassure you that I'm not lying there.

I walked with you towards the house, as you fumbled for your key.
I gently put my paw on you, I smiled and said "it's me."

You looked so very tired, and sank into a chair.
I tried so hard to let you know that I was standing there.

It's possible for me to be so near you everyday.
To say to you with certainty, "I never went away."

You sat there very quietly, then smiled, I think you knew ...
In the stillness of that evening, I was very close to you.

The day is almost over... I smile and watch you yawning
and say "goodnight, God bless, I'll see you in the morning."

And when the time is right for you to cross the brief divide,
I'll rush across to greet you and we'll stand, side by side.

I have so many things to show you, there is so much for you to see.
Be patient, live your journey out ... then come home to be with me.

I just found this website yesterday, because I was about at my wits end over My Pyr. contstantly getting ill, and wanted some insight.... Someone was looking out for me up above, and sent me to your website!!!! I have yet to find a website this well put together and informative as this one has been for me and my baby!  Thank you to all for all the of gorgeous pictures, the wonderful tips and the great info. for my Eowyn and me.  Hopefully, some of the insight that I added regarding the JPS procedure helped someone too.  Again, I cannot thank you all enough, or give enough praises to all of the gorgeous "BIG PAWS" that are out there.   Here is a pic. of my gorgeous, and hopefully it can make someone out there smile, as much as the pics on this website did for me. ;D :D

General Board for Big Dogs with Big Paws / Re: Drool VS Hair
« on: September 09, 2005, 06:51:14 pm »
I have learned that the easiest way to deal with the coat issue, is to try and get your pup accustomed to the vacuum cleaner.  I vacuum my pyr. out every other day, with a special comb attachment on the end... She adores it.... so I guess I would say I would rather deal with the drool,  To me that is just a sign of her love, and it is easier to wipe off, than to try and pull those fluffly little hairs out of your eyes, teeth and off all of your dark clothes.

My great pyr. has been plagued with vaginitis since I have had her... Her symptoms go as far as severe vulvar swelling, rash, extreme pain in chest, rib cage and spinal areas, along with the "shoe string" discharge, and severe lethargy.  I take her into the vet, along with a urine sample and fecal sample, and he will usually give her a shot of penicillan and send me home with antibiotics.  Within 12 hours, Eowyn starts to show signs of feeling better, and within 2 days, she is back to her old tricks.  I hate the fact that she has to be on the antibiotics, and have also tried to just "let the problem" clear up on its own.... but, when I have done that, she has gone to pointnot even being able to move, because she is so uncomfortable.  Please give me some insight as to why :time: will not work for her as a cure.  Will this go away with age/spaying?? Your reply will be greatly appreciated.

;D, My puppy, Eowyn, Had the procedure done at the age of 13 weeks.  The older the dog is, they will not be able to have to procedure....  I was very scared about having it done, but I have to say, that I am extrememly happy that I did...  She now has a 95% chance of NEVER developing any symptoms from the disease... Before the procedure, she was unable to run, manuever stairs, or jump.  Now!!! OMG she is the most rambunctious creature around! She is absolutely PERFECT.  I would recommend this surgery for any puppy that is diagnosed with HD. It will save you and your baby years of sorrow.
