the 13th (april).  why?  well, for starters, brandon is sick today, barfing his guts up all morning before work.  secondly, i got a call from my mom saying that the pound called and said that our dog is there?!  come to find out it's tiny, who we gave to a friend of brandon's who he no longer sees.  well, instead of trying to find the guy brandon wants to bring her back home.  normally, i'd say ok, but come on.  that'll make  SIX dogs, in a 3 bedroom 2 bath house along with 2 kids and 3 cats.  mind you, she hates cats and tries to eat them, and we had over $400 worth of vet bills just for stitches (in a matter of 3 months mind you) b/c of her attacking our other dogs unprovoked, which is why we opted to adopt her out to a home with NO other pets.  apparently, she's a stray, which i don't see why brandon doesn't try to find the guy or wait to see if he does look for her, she can be a heathen on a leash and she was the guys first dog, which we didn't know at the time.  give the guy a chance!  also, when she's at the house i have to have her COMPLETELY separated from any other 4 legged creatures.  this is really hard, because i don't have a separate fenced in area to let her potty, or anything.  i don't think it's necessary fair to anyone involved, granted i know anything would be better than her being put down.  now, thirdly, my kitchen floor has been dyed purple.  yes, purple.  aiden accidentally dropped a WHOLE container of grape juice on my floor, which i'm pretty sure is cheap to start with, and it stained it.  so when i went to clean it, naturally it got smeared a little, and so now i've ended up with about a 4 sq ft purple blotch on my floor.  no cleaner has worked so far.  somebody shoot me!

ok, so i thought it would be funny to share stories of any training mishaps.  here are two that i've encountered.

this happened when axle was still a puppy (about 10 months old) and aiden was 6 months, just getting good at eating "real" food.  aiden's FAVORITE food was chicken nuggets.  well, when he'd eat them, axle would hound over him every time and i'd make an "eeent" noise to make him stop.  after a few months, aiden would start screaming every time i gave him a chicken nugget, and i couldn't figure out why, b/c he act like he wanted to eat it so bad but wouldn't.  well, come to find out, while i was training axle to leave aiden's food alone, aiden had also "learned" not to eat his chicken nuggets.

scenario two.  not dog related, but i LOVE to get aiden to torment brandon while he's in the bathroom.  childish, yes, i know but OH so funny.  i've taught aiden to say "daddy, you poop??" or "daddy, i gotta go, hurry up"  or "daddy, get out i gotta pee" too funny, i think, esp considering aiden is JUST starting to take interest in going "potty"  long story short, it was funny for a few weeks, until aiden started doing it to me now ha ha.

Anything Non-Dog Related / i need advice, family related.
« on: January 29, 2007, 04:00:19 pm »
ok, so we had kids early.  aiden when i was 18 (i turned 19 the next month) and tristan in when i was 20 (turned 21 two months later).  now, i REALLY want to work, but as things are brandon is always at work, not to mention money is a little tight, so anything i earned while working would go straight to babysitting, and that's pushing it considering i might even lose money.  i'd also love to go back to school, but then i'll need a babysitter and not have income.  we don't have any family near that could help, so that's out.  has anyone else been in this situation, and if you were how did you work things out??  also, any suggestions would be great.  on another note, does anyone know how going to college works if your a  military family, do you still have to pay the out of state student fees?  brandon wants me to join the military, but i don't want the kids to spend all their time with a babysitter, esp. considering that the nearest post is about an hour and a half away from here, so i'd leave super duper early in the morning, and get back super late at night.  i'd never get to see them  :-\ thanks everybody!

General Board for Big Dogs with Big Paws / caine put a knot on my head...
« on: January 28, 2007, 11:08:23 pm »
ok, so you all know about the *great* new windows that flip inside to make it so easy to clean right.  well, we have those in our house, and I HATE THEM.  today i was opening the window going out onto our back porch and caine (the little twerp) was so excited, i guess, that i was doing it he jumped up full force on the window and popped it out and made it hit my head.  it put a big knot on my head, and boy was hubby confused when he walked in the door right after to see my bawling and all he could understand was caine and window.  the crying was well justified though, i think, b/c it left about a 2" knot in a line going across my head.

modified, because i wanted to put as a side note that i hate them b/c this is the second time this has happened to me :(

ok, so we bought out house this past summer.  we got mail for a previous resident, who was renting the house before we bought it.  and it keeps coming.  and coming.  more and more mail, day after day.  i swear i'm getting like 2 to 3 letters a week now.  so, now they've started sending things certified (it's a college, i guess she owes them money??) and my mail person is an IDIOT.  the truck the woman was in was a POV and didnt even have a USPS sticker anywhere on it, so i didn't answer the door.  she opened the screen door to leave a "you've got mail sticky" and she  doesn't turn my door knob on my NEW screen door and just yanks it open.  yeah.  i'm mad, she bent the piece that keeps it shut, and pulled the screws out the door frame a little.  THANKS!  so, now i call the post office.  the guy is clueless.  has no idea what to do, and just takes down the name and address that it's supposed to go to, and says he'll have it sent back.  so i call the college now, and they tell me they don't know what to do.  so i get transfered to about 5 offices to finally be asked to just go online and send an e-mail to the right office.  OK.  sure, whatever.  how hard is it REALLY to just make a note "so and so doesn't live at this address anymore" and send it to the RIGHT office which is probably right down the hall?!

so, thanks to my mail people and college workers who seem bound and determined not to know their job.

does anyone else's double coated bigpaw get knotted up super easy, esp after baths and when they're blowing their coat?  and does anyone know something that works to help keep it from happening?  axle already gets brushed, which takes forever b/c we go through about a 1 inch piece at a time to make sure we get them all, but i wasn't sure if you could use something like no more tangles, or if they made something like it for dogs.

145
axle got his bath, to help him feel better, and he wanted me to share his "handsome" pics ha ha.  also, as a side note, i used the vinegar / lemon juice / cornstarch mix today on him so you can see how white it makes him come out!

Medical Conditions & Diseases / serious question about axle's health
« on: January 23, 2007, 12:14:49 pm »
i didn't notice it this morning, but axle refuses to go outside or get up or anything.  he got up to go potty at about 5am and was reluctant to do so.  i thought it was just b/c the time (he's not a morning "person").  now it's 1pm and i had to make him get up to go outside, even though it's been 8 hours.  when he went out, i watched him from the window and he is walking EXTREMELY stiff, and i can tell he's uncomfortable and feeling really bad.  he went just far enough off the porch to do his business and is now laying back down.  i expect him to be a little stiff in his hips b/c of his HD, but today it's also his shoulders.  can dogs get something like HD in their shoulders?  it's not his elbows, but higher up.  he hasn't done anything excruciating the past few days, that would make him sore.  also, any ideas on how to help him feel better would be great!  our vet told us we don't need to have him on HD medicine for pain, but this is really hard for us lately, esp with the cold weather.

i'm curious if anyone buys their dog food wholesale, instead of bag by bag.  we go through a LOT of it, so we were considering what our options were for buying 120lbs (maybe more depending on how it works and the prices) or so at a time.  if you do, where do you get it from?  we get a 10% discount off every bag we buy at petco, but their prices fluctuate so much i never know how much i'll spend, not to mention the lack of options as far as GOOD food goes.

Games & Jokes / for all you women abour your hubbies *funny*
« on: January 23, 2007, 10:52:18 am »
You have two choices in life:
You can stay single and be miserable,
or
Get married and wish you were dead.

At a cocktail party, one woman said to another, "Aren't you wearing your wedding ring on the wrong finger?"
"Yes, I am I married the wrong man."

A lady inserted an ad in the classifieds: "Husband Wanted".
Next day she received a hundred letters.
They all said the same thing: "You can have mine."

When a woman steals your husband,
there is no better revenge than to let her keep him.

A woman is incomplete until she is married.
Then she is finished.

A little boy asked his father, "Daddy, how much does it cost to get married?"
Father replied, "I don't know son, I'm still paying."

A young son asked, "Is it true Dad, that in some parts of Africa a man doesn't know his wife until he marries her?"
Dad replied, "That happens in every country, son"

Then there was a woman who said, "I never knew what real happiness was until I got married, and by then, it was too late."

Marriage is the triumph of imagination over intelligence.

If you want your spouse to listen and pay strict attention to every word you say - talk in your sleep.

Just think, if it weren't for marriage, men would go through life thinking they had no faults at all.

A Woman's Prayer:
Dear Lord, I pray for: Wisdom, to understand a man,
to Love and to forgive him, and for patience, for his moods.
Because Lord, if I pray for Strength I'll just beat him to death "

AND NOW FOR THE FAVORITE!!!

A husband and wife are waiting at the bus stop with their nine children. A blind man joins them after a few minutes. When the bus arrives, they find it overloaded and only the wife and the nine kids are able to fit onto the bus.

So the husband and the blind man decide to walk. After a while, the husband gets irritated by the ticking of the stick of the blind man as he taps it on the sidewalk, and says to him, "Why don't you put a piece of rubber at the end of your stick? That ticking sound is driving me crazy."

The blind man replies, "If you would've put a rubber at the end of YOUR stick, we'd be riding the bus now... so shut the h*ll up."

« on: January 22, 2007, 09:34:56 pm »
so, today, i thought to measure diesel and see how tall he is now.  on november 22 of 06 i measured his height at his withers and he was 31".  well, today i measured him again and he is right under 34" at 8 months old on the 12th of january (i think i did some miscalculation on one of my posts, because of bad math, his b-day was may 12th.)  wow, an inch and a half a month.  he also now dwarfs scout by almost two inches, when they were the same height when i got her.  here is a "then and now" pic.  he's back to his scrawny look b/c of his growth (figures) sorry about them not looking at the pic, my camera ran out of battery RIGHT when i went to take a better pic.

Games & Jokes / taking pictures of your new puppy *funny*
« on: January 21, 2007, 09:07:23 pm »
Photographing a new puppy isn't as easy as it may first sound...

Remove film from box and load camera.

Remove film box from puppy's mouth and throw in trash.

Remove puppy from trash and brush coffee grounds from muzzle.

Choose a suitable background for photo.

Mount camera on tripod and focus.

Find puppy and take dirty sock from mouth.

Place puppy in pre-focused spot and return to camera.

Forget about spot and crawl after puppy on knees.

Focus with one hand and fend off puppy with other hand.

Get tissue and clean nose print from lens.

Take flash cube from puppy's mouth and throw in trash.

Put cat outside and put peroxide on the scratch on puppy's nose.

Put magazines back on coffee table.

Try to get puppy's attention by squeaking toy over your head.

Replace your glasses and check camera for damage.

Jump up in time to grab puppy by scruff of neck and say, "No, outside! No, outside!"

Call spouse to clean up mess.

Fix a drink.

Sit back in Lazy Boy with drink and resolve to teach puppy "sit" and "stay" the first thing in the morning.
