Breeding Questions & Information / Re: Breeding...need answers...help
« on: December 31, 2006, 10:50:22 am »
I am so sorry you had to go through such hard times with your newf. :'( How sad to lose a family member on Christmas Eve.  :'(

My best advice would be don't go back to that breeder for your next dog. Find someone you can really talk to and someone whose breeding practices you really agree with.

Maybe there is a newf club who would have some information about proper pairing... but I'm thinking that if that person is making money breeding those dogs, they probably won't care if it's an ethical practice or not. :(

Beautiful creatures, all of them!! Even the snakes!!! :D I used to have a boa and a ball python when I was a teenager. It's been a long time since I handled a snake, but I think they are awesome!!!

That's great that you have rescued so many, the pet trade is scary- so often people don't realize what they are getting into when buying exotic animals.

Great zoo!!! ;D Looks like you have a pretty cute dog there, too! :D ;)

Book Club & Noteworthy Reads / Re: Top Training/Behavior Books - Must Haves

You can tell in the newer episodes of Cesar Millan that he has been doing some research. I have seen him using some of Turid Rugaas' calming signals in the show, and adding in some other aspects of positive training. It seems to me like he has an interest in furthering his education.

When it all comes down, the best thing about Cesar, and what I prefer to focus on, is that he encourages rescue and he encourages people to not give up on their dog if they are having problems. This message is an important one. :)

Helpful Groups & Dogs in Need / another Dane in GA shelter
« on: December 30, 2006, 09:03:19 am »
Can you imagine? Looks like this boy was an owner surrender. He is marked URGENT.

He's in Gwinnett county, an easy trip from Atlanta. Can someone help this boy before his time is up? The earliest I could help would be Tuesday if he makes it that long. I am 40 minutes from this shelter.

Holiday Things / Christmas Turkey!!!
« on: December 25, 2006, 12:18:04 am »
Hi everyone and a big Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to everyone!!!!!!! :D :D :D

As some of you know, my dog Turkey was hit by a car about two months ago and broke her back leg and her pelvis. Well... today she comes home from North Carolina from her second surgery. She had the pin taken out of her femur, and got some ex-rays. The ex-rays showed all of her bones to be totally healed!!!! YAY!!!! And in a few hours I will receive the best gift, my little Turkey!!! ;D

So she will have to be confined for a little bit longer while she's still sensitive from the pin, but no more surgeries!!! YAY!!!!!! I am so so thankful!!!!!!!! So we'll see how she feels, I am hoping that now that the pin is out she will be more comfortable about using her back leg. So far she had been just truckin' around on her three good legs. But I am really crossing my fingers that she will use all four legs very soon!

Thanks everyone for your support while we went through this, it was so hard in the beginning and it really feels like a miracle that I still have my baby girl!!! YAY for Turkey!!!
I'll post pics of her after she gets home today. ;)
 ;D

This girl is so beautiful, I don't want to think about how she ended up in the shelter. It's about 45 minutes from me, if anyone might be interested in her I could possibly help out...
Looks like her puppies are up for adoption too but they are not purebred Danes. Still ridiculously cute though!!!!

Here's "Gloria"...

and here is her petfinder page...

Helpful Groups & Dogs in Need / AWESOME big paw up for adoption in MD
« on: December 20, 2006, 02:08:14 am »
Just look at this boy!!!

He is in a shelter in Maryland and doesn't even have so much as a name. He is listed on petfinder as an Irish wolfhound, but he looks like he has some Leonberger in him or something! He looks fantastic!!! At first glance you don't realize how big he is... but then compare him to the person in the photo and you can see that he is huge!!!!

I just think he's neat and maybe someone in that area is looking for a new friend to adopt. ;D
