Food Discussion & Information / Re: Solid Gold - Green Tripe can food?

Similar to the Slippery Elm, but if I remember correctly it is both good for the runs and constipation.. .go figure.

The reason I add the Marshmalow is because when I first heard about the recipe, I could buy the powder loose and it had both herbs in it.  I know that Marshmallow is one of those things that coats the digestive tract.

What an awful situation!!!!!!

Maybe we can all find that girl and beat her up.

Normally I would consider it unethical but the "oops the dog ran away" angle might not be a bad idea.  Just make sure the dog ends up in a no-kill shelter or something.

ARGGHHH!

Just something someone pointed out to me at the dog park.  If a dog has a prong collar on at doggie play group and you need to grab him because there is an issue (hey it happens) you can actually skewer your own finger on the prong.  It happened to someone I know.  It was awful!

Stupid question...are dark grey charcoal colored danes considered blues?  When I live in Manhattan there was the most gorgeous pair of matched dark charcoal danes in my neighborhood.  They were GORGEOUS!!!

Slippery Elm is awesome, I only use it when I have a dog with upset tummy, but it works like a miracle!

Jackson's Upset Tummy Recipe (from my late great dog who had chronic tummy issues)

1 can Pureed pumpkin (not pumpkin pie mix!!!)
1 can Chicken Broth
3 capsules Slippery Elm
3 capsules Marshmallow
1 spoonful yogurt

melt capsules in chicken broth over low heat, add pumpkin and stir, pour in bowl and add dollup of yogurt, serve with garnish of parsley ;)

If humans have an upset tummy, make the same thing, but add salt.  It's delicous and works!

I've found the best way to get Omega's is Flax seed oil, mixed with yogurt or cottage cheese.  If you serve it by itself it can give 'em the runs :o

I love your babies...ADORA BLE!

Some more puppy opium for everyone.  This is a picture of Summer's litter the week before I picked her up...I'm not sure she is even in the picture but I love it anyway.

Enjoy!

That Boxer site is fantastic!  I used it a lot for research when I was switching my dogs diet, the people there were really knowledgable and cool.

Summer's "couch" is a futon, and I decided to leave it open when there wasn't anyone else around so that she could stretch out more ::)
That's pretty bad ;D

Summer is also really really sensitive.  She comes to the barn with me and is super jealous of my "big dog".  But he's hurt now:( and sometimes when we are at the barn I get upset and she starts to cry really loud and I have to put her in my truck while I finish up, because it makes me even more upset.

She also did something really odd when I had her fixed.  She refused to lay down for more than 30 minutes for three days.  When she started to wobble because she was falling asleep on her feet she started to lean against walls to hold herself up.  And this was after going to the vet and putting her on painkiller/tranq's so she would sleep.

I finally got her to sleep by putting her in the car and driving her around for a couple of hours.

Food Discussion & Information / Re: Cooking your dogs food?
« on: September 30, 2005, 01:31:02 am »
Hey guys,

Well, I add a few supplements to my dogs raw diet and I also know people who don't and their dogs look healthy.  When I cooked for Jax (my old dobbie) I didn't add much in the way of supplements and he looked spectacularly healthy even when he had Cancer.

With Summer I am pretty religous about adding Flax Seed Oil since there are a lot of people who believe it is a good preventitive for Cancer.  Actually we both get it mixed with our morning yogurt (mixing it with the yogurt makes it easier to digest).  I'm one of those holisitic, all natural nuts, so when I give supplements they tend to be things like seaweed or mushroom concentrate to ward off colds. ;D

I do think there are some really good kibbles out there today (certainly better than what we could get years ago) but it is sooo much more expensive to feed than my organic raw diet so that's one of the reasons why I go that route.

Off for now.  I think I'm going to try and figure out how to link a photo with my name when I post:)
