HaHa, love Bear's body double, so clever.  ;D  Reminds me why I like large, short haired dogs.  However, I have sheep and you talk about shedding, I have to hire somebody out to take care of that stuff and then I cannot even sell it because it won't even fetch as much as aluminum can recycle money.  Wonderful world of animals.   :-\

Hi, I was looking for the right place to post the fact that the photo of Adian with Pup was so neat that I took the liberty of sending it to a few of my friends so they would enjoy it. I hope you do not mind that I did that but when I put it on my screen saver, I was really surprised out neatly it fit in.  Thanks

Hi, to me agility sounds like a fun thing to do. By the way I hope you do not mind but I took the photo of yours of the dad and baby and put it up as a screen saver - WOW it looks so cool.  You might try it and you will see what I mean.  8)

Hi Marit,  I started Niki when she was a pup.  I received a lot of training instructions from 4-H people who raised pups to be used as guide dogs for the blind.  I also had instructions from a friend who trains fire investigating dogs. I started working her in the store after she was 2 years old.  She had lots of national television and news publicity for her feats - hee hee we had our 15 minutes of fame.  With all of this, the most important fact is -- you must work with your dog EVERY day - 7 days a week.  She is 8 and still going strong.  Well,
Galahad looks like the kind of dog that you just HAVE to hug, so give him a big one for me.   :-*

Yes, welcome to all the newbies....I cannot tell you why I enjoy this group so much.  I think it is their honesty and compassion for big dogs and especially the photos.  I love going through them and seeing such great animals.  I think I will try to get my digital camera going again and get some good shots.  WELCOME AGAIN.

HI, love your dog's photo.  What a cutie, great face that shows he has a lot of character.  Clear shiney coat too with arms that look like he works out.  I will try to load another photo of Niki working.  My goal someday is to try to help people teach their dogs like a working dog for handicapped people even though they might not be handicapped.  In other words, why do you have to have a handicap if you want to have a helper dog?  In today's world many of us could use it and dogs are MUCH happier when they have a purpose.  Well, I guess we are all happier. ;D

At home she picks up my shoes and puts them in the shoe basket.  She will leave my husband's shoes alone because she knows he does not like them in the basket.  She picks up anything on the floor that is not supposed to be there and asks me if it goes in the trash. That includes lint and more. She will pick up a leaf inside but not outside.  She cleans up around the outside too.  Helps me carry in the groceries (will carry up to a 12-pack of beer or soda).  She does the banking for me too as the bank employees love her and she can go in there.  Of course, she gets the paper and the mail.  She is looking for work but I do not think Merry Maids will hire her.   ;)

I have experienced bloat but never with a dog.  I lost a ewe (sheep)
to it last year.  I have saved them from it too but it required an all nighter walking the barn.  I suppose a Great Dane is like that too - not fun.   :(

I tried free feeding but after awhile Niki gained too much weight.  I think how you feed depends on what you want to accomplish.  I like to keep her a little hungry during the day.  She works and gets treats during the day (I use a variety of doggie treats).  If she isn't  hungry, she works VERY slowly. She is fed at night.  Everybody's dog and what they are doing, is different thus feeding methods are different.  I do not like being a big know-it-all so I remain open to other ideas.   :-*

;D  Niki is a true working dog.  Would stand in front of our video store and get movies from customers.  Clear the drop box, make change, put things in the trash and bring balloons to kids.  What a long list, but alas, Blockbuster opened up across the street.  Now she is retired but still works at home and our ranch.  She cleans house and can even carry a 12 pack of drinks then put it on a shelf.  She is looking for work though, if you know anybody. ::)

Hi Jen, I am so glad you have people in Charlotte that can help you.  I am sorry but I do not know the date of the fire.  I am assuming it is pretty recent. I think it was a house fire so the dog probably lived there and stayed with his family.   If I find out more, I will let you know right away.  Thanks and I can't wait for you to post to this board what you find out.   8)

Hi, well Ft. Funston beach sounds great.  I would love to get out of the heat of Fresno for a day.  Are there any hotels or motels in the area that don't cost an arm and a paw  ???.

Oh yes, my daughter's fiancee is a captain, not a chief like I originally said and he works at Novato Station #1.  Yes, I bet a Novato fireman has a chusie job, however, he thinks it is like "Ladder 49" so I better not say anything.

I can't believe they are doing that to the bridge.  How stupid.  They will just find someplace else to jump and we will lose a national icon.  ughh

Hi Jen, I got the photo from a friend on the internet that sends me really COOL things.  All I know is that the reporter was from a paper in Charlotte N.C. called The Observer.  I am sure with that information you can find out more.  I would be crushed if it was something like "urban myths" but I really don't think so.

It reminds me about the first time I realized how much emotions especially big dogs have.  One night while driving home with my husband our headlights came across a large dog sitting beside another one that had been hit and killed by a car.  The dog would not leave the other one's side and on closer inspection had actual tears streaming from its face.  It will stick in my mind forever. Many people truly underrate the unbelievable character these animals have.
