In Canada, any dog entered (under 1 year old) will compete for best puppy, along with winners. If one of these puppies takes win best of winners or winners, it automatically wins best puppy because it has defeated all the rest of the puppies. If an adult wins the above, the best puppy from each class will have to go back in the ring and the judge will pick from them. This should be the last judging of that breed. Best Puppy of breed will then move on to Puppy group to compete. Assuming a puppy does not take a regular group placement, one puppy will be chosen to compete for best puppy in show. I believe it works the same in the States.
hope that clears it up

Doberman Discussions / Re: 2 versus 1 doberman ???

Welcome....we have five dogs right now, newf-2 year old female, irish wolfhound-19 month female, irish wolfhound- 8 month female, newf-4 month female, and a borzoi(russian wolfhound)- 8 week old female.  It is crazy here when it is pee time, and the accidents that the new pup has, and the 4 month pup has all the energy along with the 8 week pup.  Its crazy!!!!  Training is going well, but a process you can't do alone.  I have kids to help me with the jobs that need to be done with 5 dogs.
I agree on waiting for at least 6 months, then the first pup will be housebroken and then you can start all over again.  we waited 4 months between two of the dogs and that worked, with us though we had to be careful that the puppy wouldn't get stepped on by the bigger and older dogs.

Food Discussion & Information / Re: quick question concerning food

We add yogurt, the dogs love it and it also helps with their digestion. The bacteria in the yogurt is good for their intestines and helps if they have runny poo...

Medical Conditions & Diseases / Re: Female puppy discharge?

Sounds like the same as our puppy, Sara. Vets and breeders all say it will disappear when she has her first cycle. As long as she does not have pain when going pee, nothing to worry about.

Borzoi Discussions & Pictures / Re: Introducing "Desa"
« on: March 25, 2008, 09:45:47 am »
one of you asked if he was going to show her.....yes he will, eventually.
Last weekend he showed Desa's sire....and didn't do to bad. We  had a great judge, who did not mind a 6 year old in the ring. He and Ivor (Am/Can Ch. Perchotin's Ivor, JC) won best of breed against a female from the same kennel (Tovaritch kennel)
Talon got to keep the ribbon but did not stick around for a professional picture....he was missing Desa.

Julie had some great ideas.

We run a boarding kennel....the smells of home help a lot.
We have never had a dog not eat more then 2 days.
Another thought is, that if the boarding kennel has different water source, then you can bring a big jug from home, so he can get used to the water. (not usually a problem but some can be fussy)

I wanted a different look for the links and went with the red, might have to change it one of these days....need a break from working on web pages for a few days first.

We are hoping to use Brass (Sara's brother) to breed Amy this fall.....as long as he keeps looking like he is now

« on: March 12, 2008, 12:35:26 pm »
We weighed Gabi the other day on her 3 month bday, and she now is a wopping 40 pounds.  No fat at all on those bones either.
Still the little firecracker, and getting sassier.
