Behavior, Housebreaking, Obedience / Re: He did NOT just do that!!!
« on: November 30, 2008, 02:09:38 am »
I wish that was what it was...our springer spaniel used to do that often.  This was I'm going to stand in the middle of the floor and piddle for what seemed like a minute - like this was the absolutely normal thing to do.

I know dogs don't have memories like us; so I know he doesn't understand why I'm still peeved.

Behavior, Housebreaking, Obedience / He did NOT just do that!!!

Hi everyone!!

It is around 11:10 at night my husband just walked in with my son and his friend, they walk past Harley he just squats in the middle of the floor and piddles...alot!!!  I heard running water and I was like WTH?

Harley has had a good day - someone was home all day, he was in and out of the house a hundred times, didn't go to the door and hit the door knob with his nose, didn't whine -which he does ALL the time.  He had a very normal day so I don't think he isn't feeling well.

Why did he do this?  As you can imagine my husband (who doesn't love dogs) was LESS than pleased.  Then I got pissed at hubby for supervising me while I cleaned the mess!!

So that is my issue for the night.

Goodnight BPOers

Randy (and Harley who is in doggy time out)

General Board for Big Dogs with Big Paws / Is it time for the Easter Bunny?
« on: November 26, 2008, 11:42:01 am »
OK So I'll start off by saying we are Jewish so the Easter Bunny doesn't generally come to our house.

So we have about 3 inches of snow last night; Harley comes in from his last potty outing of the night carrying what I think is a snow ball...WRONG it is an egg - a regular chicken egg that you buy in any supermarket - I think very strange and take it away.

Go to bed, get up this morning, Harley goes out (I have forgotten about the egg) in comes Harley again carrying a raw, whole egg, he is sooo gentle he carries it in, puts it carefully on his rug and then mean Mommy comes and takes it away.  So off I go into the snow to see if I can find any other eggs - nope so I bring Harley out and lo and behold he brings me to one last egg.

Now I am a worrier - I am thinking is someone trying to poisen Harley?  The eggs were about 6 feet onto the property not broken, not thrown.  So I'm out this morning raking the snow to make sure I have all the eggs and it seems I do.

So the theory is...I am substitute teaching for a beloved teacher at the school and shall we say I am NOT beloved actually I believe the word the students use is Bi^&h.  I am very tough I need to be or they will walk all over me.  So we figure someone came to egg the house and got nervous or surprised and dropped the eggs on the lawn?

Now I want to be even Bit&^ier (if thats possible).  My poor son goes to the same school.  It sucks to be him.

Looking forward to the influx in the coming weeks.

I must say Liz your organization is awesome - I have my cards but haven't taken a picture of Harley yet, I have to go to the attic, thru the holiday decorations and get the collar that last years SS gave Harley (thanks again Jenn!!)

Behavior, Housebreaking, Obedience / Re: Why would you eat your bed?
« on: November 04, 2008, 11:49:09 am »
Harley's elbows are bald because when he was little he ate everything we put in the crate - many dog beds, blankets, pillows etc.  I bought a bed that was "bite proof" it felt like a heavy canvas and he actually still has it (it does have a hole in it now but that was about 3 years ago) I'm thinking of getting him a new one for Chanukah.

I must admit I too like Jenn have a spreadsheet. And yes it is color coded.  Black is the idea, which turns to red when I actually buy it.  No budget though.

I usually have a few things put in the gift closet by now but not yet this year.

Anything Non-Dog Related / NDR - Watch for pirate gold coin candy
« on: October 30, 2008, 09:01:02 am »
Hi everyone - Happy almost Halloween.

I received an e-mail that:
The Sherwood brand Pirate's Gold Milk Chocolate Coins are being recalled due to the fact that they contain Melamine, the ingredient found in milk products that has caused many infant deaths in China.

I checked Snopes and they have it listed as true.

Just a heads up

Thankfully, I asked about a billion questions and I was not confindent in the breeder.  My hubby reminded me that while our springer was AKC registered it was a private person who just bred dogs because she loved them.  And Stoli was a great dog!!

I appreciate everyones answers regarding the ckc I think I probably knew all that but wanted the cute puppy!!!

This particular time of year is not a great time for a pup anyway so I'll just keep waiting for the right pup to come along!!

Thanks

Hi everyone!!

I was inquiring today about a collie puppy I saw advertised in our local paper.  It is rare to see a collie in the classified.

The lady was nice, very excited about her dogs, she does not breed for show, but for family dogs, her female is 4 and this is her second litter.

I asked if the pups were akc and she said no they are ckc I thought Canadian kennel club but she said Continental Kennel Club she said it is much like AKC but for dogs that aren't going to be show dogs more family dog oriented?

So I figured I would come to the experts to see what you all know!!

Thanks!!

Randy
