General Board for Big Dogs with Big Paws / Re: Big paws= Big Cars?

our trailer is a toy hauler. So the back 12 feet is a seperate room where we can set up crates and what ever... Nice to have a back door to go in and out of too when the weather is nasty. saves lots of cleaning.

It has to start with d because the litter is the "D" litter.  And the letters have to be only 3-5 because of the length of our names together for the registration, theirs is 9 and ours is 12 so we only have a few to play around with .  You can only have 30 characters in a registered name. For instance:
Windseeker Amy at Prairietrail is exactly 30 with the spaces.

So when you have a litter, the way you can tell is that there is more white on the dog...so basically...a landseer is just color and a few differences in size?

Some of Gabi's litter mates were all black, not one white hair, but they will still have landseer recessive genes. There are also black newfies with white markings that do not have the landseer gene
The "perfect" landseer size should be the same size as a regular newfoundland.
there are different "types" of newfoundland dogs, the same as any breed....examp les: smaller heads, overall size, head type, ect. and all still fall into the above descriptions of a newfoundland

I should have explained better... A landseer is a Newfoundland, it is white and black. I have been told it is a white dog with black markings

In Canada, the CKC refuses to recognize Browns and greys.....but they can all come from black parents...its all in the genes

interesting read.....
Black Mom + Landseer Dad = Black puppies (landseer recesive)
2years later..that black puppy + Black Dad = black puppies...
2years later..that black puppy + Landseer dad = landseer puppies.....
2years later..that black puppy + Black Dad who is landseer recesive = landseer puppies
In Canada the CKC says the Newfoundland and the Landseer are the same.

here are a few pics, sorry can't get a picture of Dad right now.....he is a landseer
edit: found the pic

On a giant breed, I would test the following:
hips
elbows
eyes
heart
thyroid
and possibly more more depending on the dogs breeding lines.
250 to 300 bucks around here plus the thyroid test (not sure on that one yet)
