Diatomaceous earth  Dust him and brush in thoroughly so it gets down into his skin. Be sure to use the food grade DE not the brand used for pool filters.  Also a bath using Dawn dish detergent will kill the fleas but the effect doesn't last but a few days

There are numerous dog food brands that are high quality- both that you named are good choices.  Everyone feeds a little differently but most large breed owners move their pups to adult formula between 4 and 6 months.  Foods should have minimal grain contents with wheat and corn being the two that you wish to avoid in your dog foods.  Also key to healthy development of a large breed is to KEEP THEM LEAN! during their 1st year or so of growth. This will help in preventing orthopedic disorders often associated with too rapid growth.  Fat puppies are NOT healthy puppies

Both hardware stores and pet stores sell products to prevent and or treat lawn burn.  Me I just use pelleted lime every spring on the lawn - I have 5 dogs in a small yard and don't have a problem with yellow spots.  Now dog paths is a different story

You just might have to switch foods in the bag until you can re-educate hubby!!

Change vets  Although my vet also is not a fan of raw he respects my decision as my dogs are always in wonderful health.  Even though he sells dog food as well never once has he recommended I buy it

Food Discussion & Information / Re: Puppy Food

Every person will give you a different answer and be equally passionate about their choice.  The important thing is that you feed a high quality food and don't allow your pup to be overweight.  All the food choices you named are good

The 'scam' everyone is buzzing about is about ebook internet business- the new owners evidently have several, most if not all pet related.  E books are perfectly legitimate absolutely legal and have been around for more than a decade.  Although the sites listed had negative comments there were also some very positive comments.  I personally am not a big fan of e books BUT it is a legitimate form of business.

Perhaps indeed it could have been handled differently and some people feel betrayed and have hurt feelings.  But ownership has changed- its a done deal so why not move on.  The site has not changed and this remains a community of dog owners.  I have to agree with Knickerbocker and Nipa- at this point a dead horse is being beaten.  People joined this site because it was a meeting place for people with like interests  - not because it was owned by certain people

Everything happens for a reason, and like so many have said already, the "members" make the forums and community what it is, not the owners.

I can't agree more  Although the owners have changed it really shouldn't change the community that has established itself over time.  This is a forum to meet others with like interests and exchange information - for everyone to storm off with hurt feelings and ruffled feathers is sorta like cutting off your nose to spite your face as my mom used to say.

There are also some studies being done which are beginning to implicate multiple and yearly canine vaccines to an increased incidence of cancer in dogs.  That is one reason behind the push to not automatically do yearly vacs and to do titers instead.

I also do not do lepto- the incidence of vaccine reactions is much higher than the incidence of disease and the vaccine reactions can be deadly.  My own vet doesn't recommend this vaccine  Lyme vaccine also has a lot of reactions though usually not fatal but is also not very effective against preventing.  Kennel cough can be helpful to give except the disease is fairly uncommon and is the equivalent of having a cold- I don't see the point excepting for meeting boarding regulations.  The basic vaccines I give every 3 years after their puppy shots and that is for distemper, parvo and hepatitis.
