Great Dane Discussions / Re: Tracking with Danes?
« on: March 27, 2006, 01:56:09 pm »
my dane athena has all these corpses of former stuffed animals with there stuffing gone scattered all over the yard and we had a huge dump of snow she spent the next afternoon 'rescuing' her stuff and digging them all out i don't know if it was by smell(they were all pretty funk that's why they were out of doors) or by memory but she had a grand old time finding them all.  my back yard looked like a field hospital for the muppets but she sure enjoyed herself

Great Dane Discussions / Re: A small vent about people and their dogs

i was in pet smart not that long ago myself and what drives me crazy is the owners of little dogs that are aggresive and think the rules don't apply to them i had athen on leash standing in the petsmart line the lady in front of us had a little long haired mop terrier of some sort in her cart no leash on it it was growling and snarling and doing every thing it could to try and get at athena including trying to leap out of the cart and launch at athena the owner caught the little rat before it got to us and u held athena but this thing wanted to try and shredd athena no kidding and the owners attitude was whatever its not like her little thing could really hurt a 'moster sized' dog like mine anyways, herwords, but that is so not the point if her dog had attacked mine and gotten hurt in the process it's my 'monster sized' dog that would have gotten blamed

Behavior, Housebreaking, Obedience / Re: Why use a crate?
« on: January 11, 2006, 03:53:05 pm »
i find that the crate also makes my pooper more welcome in othe peoples home when visiting if we are spending the night somewhere i can put her in any aceptable room in the house and she feels safe and at home for the night just cause i don't mind doggie slobbery in my bed (well i do actually but there realy is no helping it) but neither my mom or my in-laws apreciate it so when we go to visit a crates a must.

i feed athena chicken soup and at 5 mnths old the most we get is 4or 5 a day and usually 3 is more common.  all solid and not chuachua sized yet(boy is that what i have to look forward to) but it does definatly look like a 10 years old did it and not a 5 mth old puppy, as for scooping there is a clean up crew that comes around my neighbor hood and for $10/wk they will scoop and dispose of poop they will come around 2-3 times a wk

see in my house my husband faithfully gets up with the puppy on the odd occasion when she still needs out at night.  i ususally feel so sorry for him i let him cuddle his cold parts on me

see i have cats so athena knows she's not one of those hissy fluffy cranky things that will not play with her she does however think she's a bird she will literally launch herself onto any piece od furniture that she can gain access to  and when leaving the house she completely skippys the steps and fly's over them to the grass below.  i love that pic of maggie she has these eyes that just say pet me pet me

but hi! I'm Melissa, owned by a 7 almost 8 month old Newfoundland boy, Bava. Bava is eating Chicken Soup for the Dog Lovers Soul which is low protein.

ignore that i'm not mellissa i was just trying to quote her and say i feed chicke soup too my puppy loves it and her coat is really shiny and her poop is good and solid.  at 4mnth 2 wks she is 60 lbs i think that is about right weight wise for her age

Great Dane Discussions / the soda pop hound
« on: November 13, 2005, 03:47:32 pm »
anyone else have a dane or dog period that likes soda pop?  if i leave a glass where athena can get it she'll drink the whole thing gone.  it's very weird and i'm sure very bad for her.  is there maybe something in her diet that's missing or what?

i've never heard of these guys before whats the deal i sort of looked at the web site it looks more like they are selling bad dog food with lots of filler than adopting out dogs.  bold claim of 18 plus yrs of life for there pets when they've only been around 11 yrs

i'll see your reflection and raise you an abandan shopping cart.  we were out walking and came across a ordinary old shopping cart well athen snuck up on it sniffed it barked at it growled at it tried to bite ite and altimatly decided it was evil and to high tail it out of there.  my husband just about peed himself laughing at her.

ok question off topic sort off but not really cause its about colour.  how much white can a black have before it's not a black and its considered a 'mantle' or 'boston'.  my girl has white tipped toes a small flash of white on the chest and white spots on the inside back of her paws that you can't see in pics.  so black or 'mantle/boston' ? not that i care shes still my beautiful moster baby anyways just courious

Great Dane Discussions / Re: Boarding ideas for big dogs?
« on: October 11, 2005, 02:46:50 am »
be carefull of kennels that have dogs in runs.  when i was a kid i used to work at one and on really busy weekends they would overbook and the people that were gone the longest would have their dogs checked into the big runns and as soon as they were gone they would be moved into little vary kennels and let out a couple times a day from there.  then before there owners got back they would be moved back into the big runs for there people to pick them up the people non the wiser

the sistuations both sound suspicious but don't automatically discount canadians.  i live in alberta and the closest rescue i can find is in ontario but i also don't know where to look so there might be more but when i got my puppy i had a crate and stuff already because i had a dog before.  also alot of the rescues i've seen up here require a home visit.  great idea but if you live on the opposite side of the country it doesn't work so well
