Breeding Questions & Information / Re: How to find a good breeder....
« on: February 07, 2006, 06:17:59 pm »
Another way to find a good breeder....  go to and get involved with your chosen breed club's events.  Whether it be working, showing, agility, obedience, or just club meetings.

Ask lots of questions and EXPECT a great breeder to ask you lots of questions about your animal owning history, your home, your family, your intentions....

A responsible breeder will direct you to the OFA website to look up health testing on their dogs as well as their pedigree's testings.  (Because a responsible breeder actually tests!)

A responsible breeder will not only say they will do an in-home visit before placing a pup...  they will actually follow thru and DO IT!

Big Dogs with Jobs / Re: Pictures From Sunday's Dog Show

How old is he??

He is only 7 months old.  Already taller than his momma and catching up to our 5 year old boy Tank.  Both of which are next to him in my profile picture here.

We were also at the show, benched with our 7 month old little Newfy boy Dozer.  And I guess I could insert BRAG here>

He actually took Best of Winners (2 points) on Saturday and Reserve Winners on Sunday.

We were completely shocked!  Puppies rarely get a look, let alone the points, but the Judge seamed to really like what he saw.  We thought it would just be a weekend of "getting some ring experience and making it fun for him"  We were very pleasantly surprised.

None of our pictures of him in the ring came out, but here are a few others.  Grooming the night before the show and on the bench (red bib) with his littermate sister ready for the ring.  I'm anxious to see how his official photo witht he judge turns out   :D

Meet & Greet BPOers / Bark In The Park - San Jose, CA
« on: August 24, 2005, 04:24:26 pm »
If any of you live in or close to San Jose, CA there is a wonderful event called Bark in the Park.  Being held Saturday, September 17th at Naglee Park.  It is a huge DOG event and everyone is encouraged to bring theirs.   There will be lots of vendors, demonstrations and contests.  Last year Bark attracted approximately 3,000 dogs and 10,000 humans

My Newfie club will have a booth set up doing carting and rally demos in the morning.  (I'll have all 3 of my Newfs kids there)

For more info visit the website at:   http://www.nagleepark.org/bark/

Enjoy!

Tank is, like, yeah what ever...
Sadie says "I'm boss, and don't you forget it!"  Yesterday she held him on the ground with a paw and stood over him to prove it.  But today she has a more motherly attitude.

Babies are still doing good.  3 of them hit (and 2 surpassed) the 2 pound mark as of today.  Its been so hot here that we've had to place ice packs in the box for them. And I'm watering Mom down when she takes a break from feeding and when she is feeding I'm trying to keep a cool wet towel over her.  I hope this heat wave breaks soon, I feel so bad for the little ones.

Here's Pink cooling his belly on one of the ice packs. And also one of him showing me just how cool it is. He looks so comfy and content  :D

We have puppies!
My Miss Sadie Loo gave birth (via emergency c-section  :-\ ) on Thursday the 9th to 6 beautiful, healthy babies. (2 girls and 4 boys)  Everyone is doing great.  It's been a very long sleepless weekend.

I swear if I watch without blinking I can see them grow!  The average birth weight was 1lb 8oz.  4 days later it is 1lb 13oz

We've already taken lots of pictures and I think I'll play with the puppy-cam today.  Although I'm not sure if there will be enough light in the box to really see them.

All of the pictures can be found on their breeder's website:  http://capricciofarmnewfs.com/Litter%20Albums/060905litter/pinkfloydlitter.htm

We have decided to keep one only if there is a big beautiful boy.  Otherwise we will wait for her next litter (next year).  Although it will be very hard to give up any of them!  Some of the people on the waiting list live very close so we will be able to see them grow up.

Oh, I certainly will let everyone know.  There will be lots and lots of pictures for sure.  My husband is a picture taking junky.  In fact we might even set up a puppy cam for a few days too!  I will post a few pictures here, but most of the pictures will be on her breeder's website at:  http://capricciofarmnewfs.com/Litter%20Albums/June05litter/pinkfloydlitter.htm
Which I am in the process of updating.  (I'm her webmaster too)

Newfoundland Discussions / Waiting for pups

Hello,
I don't usually post a lot here, but I'm home with nothing to do.  Boredum is a terrible thing.
My Sadie's pups are due Thursday (I happen to think it will be Wednesday though)  She went to the doc on Friday for an x-ray and we saw 6 BIG babies.  I have a doppler so I can hear their tiny heart beats.  Its amazing how fast they beat, especially when they get to moving around.  And they do move around a lot right now.  it seams like they are having puppy olympics in there.  I don't even have to have a hand on her big belly, I can see the movement if I just sit and watch.  It's so amazing.  I monitor her for uterine contractions twice a day for an hour which gives me plenty of quiet time to sit and watch the show.  I know I won't be bored once they arrive, but for now I sit here trying to come up with stuff to fill my day.   :-\

Here's a picture of poor Sadie and her big belly napping on her cool mat.
