I saw the cutest GD/Lab pups at the local shelter yesterday.  They are adorable, and will be HUGE!  Their paws are enormous...and I'm not so sure about the Lab part!  They are in Visalia, California.

They really, really need to come home with YOU!!!!!

Food Discussion & Information / Question about feeding raw...
« on: March 30, 2007, 06:19:34 pm »
Im new to feeding raw, and was wondering:  Hubby has noticed that my dogs are more excited about eating a raw meal than kibble.  Has anyone who feeds raw noticed this?  It is a bad sign?  I think its normal.  I think he's worried it will lead to aggression.  Opinions?

Great Dane Pictures / I've always wanted to...
« on: March 25, 2007, 02:30:41 am »
...wake up with a dog so close to me that she could almost BE me.  No really.  NOT!

This morning Bella as usual comes to occupy the warm spot left when "someone" leaves the bed.  This time it was lucky me who got to stay behind.  Then Miss Ellie comes in to say "goodmorning, can we snuggle?"  She literally sits on me, and rubs her head all over mine!  She gets so close I ask my husband "Could she BE any closer?"  His reply, "Maybe if she was PART of you!"  (Notice Bella covering her eyes from the blinding flash in the second one!)

Great Dane Pictures / Can we go to the lake???
« on: March 25, 2007, 02:21:53 am »
Ellie got to go to one of our local lakes..."Lake Success."  It's hilarious because I've been to other lakes and this is more like a puddle.  However, Ellie had a great time.  No Fear of the water...well maybe the waves, and the stationary rock in the water.  She surely wanted to taste the ducks floating around.  She was so tense...she IS an intense girl!  She sure enjoyed getting muddy paws and the fishy smell!!!   :P  (sorry about the hubby butt shot)

I was wondering what happened to all my pics I inserted.  They are only showing up as "downloads."  Is this part of the new way BPO has been updated???  Thanks!   ???

Great Dane Pictures / Bath and a walk???

St. Pat's Day was full of fun.  My skin kid and I went to the St. Pat's day parade, and later gave our girls baths.  Then we all got to go for a walk on main street.

Great Dane Pictures / Had FUN Campin'!!!
« on: February 24, 2007, 09:58:03 pm »
We went campin' in California City over the last holiday weekend.  It was tons of fun!  Our pups (Bella & Boomer loved to go more than anything)  This was the second trip without Boomer...and the first trip with Ellie.  She is a pretty good campin' dog!  She had decent manners except for invading Louie's space (bark, snap, growl, and repeat!)  They finally made friends and Louie is the bestest Great Pyr I've ever seen...especia lly since she was the first one I've seen!!!  They're so soft and cuddly  :D

Can you find Ellie, Bella and Louie in the group photo???  Finding Louie is kinda like finding Waldo!!!

Anyhow, it's always fun to get away and take your favorite kids with you!!!

Great Dane Discussions / Story....Got time?
« on: January 07, 2007, 10:56:17 am »
I have a story to tell.  It starts off very sadly.

I lost my Boomer this past August.  I haven't signed on since, cause the last post was about how he got a special day at the river without Bella.  It turned out to be his last special trip.  He got really sick about 5 days later and didn't make it to the vet.  I don't know what happened because he didn't show any signs of sickness except he threw up clear liquid twice.  But was otherwise a happy pup.  He drank some and was eating some.  He had a history of this behavior because of a sickness as a pup.  Long story short, I'll never second guess an illness again.  He was my hubby's boy.  He was the coolest dog ever!  He'll be deeply missed forever.

Yesterday while purchasing a really big bag of dog food for Bella I saw a Mantle GD in the parking lot.  I went over, asked permission to pet said pooch, and she was darling.  Her young owners each had a small shaggy pooch of their own in their arms and the pet store lady was holding the GD.  I commented that I had a Blue at home, and they are fabulous friends.  So, I went in and got what I needed, and while I was paying, the pet store lady came in and whispered "would you like to have her?"   Hmmmm,  DUH! instantly came to mind but I said "YES!" instead.  She said that the couple were giving her away, and she was going to take her but had 3 other dogs at home, and could I come back around 5....hmmm 32 minutes to go!  Now to convince hubby.  It took about 3 seconds and a really pathetic look from me...and he said yes!  I prepared the truck for her ride home and went back to the store.  When I got there I asked questions about the GD, and the lady explained that she changed her mind and wanted to try to keep her for a few days to see if it worked out.....NOOOOO OOO!  My heart was broken, but I never take no for an answer.  I stuck around and after about 10 minutes the lady thought better of herself and handed me the leash.  So here is my new baby...Ellie!

Okay, now for the last part...Bella, aka Jealous Bella, is a bit growly (super protective of us), but has been submissive to Ellie.  There was growling, and chasing of the cat, and play-nibbling of another furry four legger in my sons room.  She is super sweet but is definately one notch higher in the pack than Bella. Please tell me this growly stuff is normal, and that all will work itself out with a little time??????? (It seems that they are just trying to establish who is in charge)  Oh, and anything else I can expect by bringing a 14 month old into my home?  Getting new pets isn't new to me, but getting an older pet is.

Thanks for listening, and helping!

Helpful Groups & Dogs in Need / Found Roaming the Neighborhood...
« on: August 12, 2006, 05:20:31 pm »
I just woke up from a nap...8:30pm California time.  I went outside to say hi to my hubby and his friend, and he said "hey, look what I found."  He is so adorable, and it's nearly dark and nobody in our neighborhood would have such a youngster.  They're all older and the young ones are out of town camping(with their 2 goldens).  I guess I'll house him for the night and see what happens tomorrow.

General Board for Big Dogs with Big Paws / Boomer won the coin toss!
« on: August 06, 2006, 03:06:01 pm »
I usually talk about BellaRoo my Dane.  However, today we went to Three Rivers for some fun, and she lost the coin toss(there was only one seat left in the jeep).  Boomer got to go, and I think he really had a blast!

General Board for Big Dogs with Big Paws / Swiffer mop/Fabreeze users
« on: January 27, 2006, 10:22:59 am »
Okay, I hope I don't get sued for friend told me last night, that her mom said not to use swiffer mops or fabreeze because they leave a "antifreeze like" film on the floor.  I know that air fresheners like fabreeze and the spray kind work because they are heavier than the "stinky air" and drag it down to the ground where we can't smell it.  But who is lurking on the floor?  Our kiddos, both fur lined and skin lined.  So my question is, has anyone heard that either of these products could potentially be toxic?  The swiffer is supposed to be toxic because you mop your floor with it, and then they lick the floor occasionally to clean up treats or spills we make.  Then something in it slowly poisions our pets, and can cause liver damage, much like antifreeze would.  Is this true?  I've used fabreeze for two to three years now, and have used the mop thing for about six months.  Any info you have with a credible source for me to check out would be awesome.

« on: January 13, 2006, 04:38:50 pm »
I've spent a few hours looking at all these way cool posts on BPO.  I've finally figured this site out (and I thought I was technically savvy!).

I guess I'm introducing my baby....Bella Roo.  Only she isn't a baby anymore, she's 2 now.  I think she's the biggest female I've ever seen.
