You're an incredible inspiration Paige.  God bless -- and your updates are always welcome!  :-* :) :D

They're beautiful.   :)

Great pics. :D I like the ones where they're together and aligned, like a team of horses.  Friends!

General Board for Big Dogs with Big Paws / collar preferences?
« on: May 14, 2008, 07:45:05 pm »
Bear came home from the hospital without his collar.   :-\  He's had the same kind since we adopted him - came with it, actually.  Nakita has the same collar so I have an example to describe but I apologize for the limited language -- I'm still exhausted from the weekend.

Okay - the collar.  It's nylon and has a black slip-through buckle kind of thing.  It doesn't have a clasp or latch and goes on/off over the head (but it doesn't stretch).  It's adjustable and it kind of has a hand-hold place near the one big ring for tags and attaching the leash.

Anybody know the name of this collar?  I guess I can call the SPCA where we got them... Or do you have a favorite that works for your big dog?

General Board for Big Dogs with Big Paws / Bear update
« on: May 14, 2008, 01:29:05 pm »
Thanks for all the prayers and hugs. BPOs kind and always reliable support is a comfort.

Bear is home, pretty dopey right now, and we're scared to death of leaving him alone. We're hoping for the best, but only time will tell. I'll keep you posted.

In the meantime - does anyone know of a good low-salt treat?

Bear's been at Tufts Vet Hospital since 5am Sunday. We came home Saturday afternoon to find him seizing, with signs of more seizures all over the house. Over the next 10 hours I gave him all the liquid valium we had (about 22cc-s) and he kept breaking through. He seized again when we arrived at Tufts. They started an IV and gave him valium 'til the seizures stopped.

He had an MRI yesterday - no tumors! - and I'll bring him home tonight. He's been weaned off the valium and loaded with potassium bromide. Hopefully the KBr and pheno will maintain the threshold without making him too dopey. This is his second cluster in under four weeks - whatever is causing the seizures is getting worse. The next few weeks will inform us about decision-making and what's best for our boy.

Prayers for my sweet Bear, please.  :'(

Good grief this is a ridiculous post.  ;D  Love all the terms.  We use "woo hoo", too.

At least they didn't eat the stuffing.  They waited like good pups for mum to clean it up.  ;D

That's right, we can't have stuffies anymore...   ;D

Benadryl is a name-brand antihistamine. Like I said, it gives great relief to Bear's itching. It doesn't solve the problem but treats the symptom. Good luck to you both!

Grace looks wonderful. As for her behavior, she's just making up for lost time.  ;)

And I can't think of a better home for all the lost souls finding their way to your door.  Thanks for all you do!

Poor Sierra and poor you!  :-[
I feel this pain as Bear has undiagnosed allergies that sometimes result in lots and lots of itching. Since he's on pheno and KBr for seizures, I hesitate to give him anything else BUT at the suggestion of my vet I occasionally give him ad adult dose of generic antihistamine (pills) and it works really well. I do this mainly during the spring & fall allergy seasons when his symptoms seem to worsen.

Hope you get some answers and relief soon.

I'm so glad for this post. Thanks Winslow's dad! We're Frontlined too and have found several in the last two weeks.  Ech - they're disgusting. If you can grab the little buggers on the head with the tweezers and turn clockwise while you pull they'll come out clean. I know, I know... not easy. That video is intriguing but I hate touching the little buggers. :P
