Medical Conditions & Diseases / Lateral Luxation of the Patella
« on: April 30, 2008, 06:15:11 pm »
After Rosie's episode with her torn ACL and surviving through the TPLO surgery (and mostly the tough recovery following it), she was diagnosed yesterday with lateral luxation of the patella, which it appears will require another surgery on the same TPLO leg.

Does anyone have any experience with this? And what procedure was used to fix it?

That sounds like quite a stressful night. We hope Bear is feeling better and his epilepsy is under control. We hope he doesn't have any more episodes like this one in the future. We'll be thinking of you and praying for you!

It looks like Jenny's going to need an upgrade from her chair to a loveseat!  ;D

What a joyful and loving way to mourn Peppy's loss, both for your family and Precious too. What a sweet husband you have.

Newfoundland Discussions / Re: Newfie Aparment?
« on: April 05, 2008, 05:25:45 pm »
Newfies don't require a lot of space, since they're pretty mellow dogs. Space for the doggie basics mentioned above would be adequate. Walking up and down lots of apartment steps would not be advisable for puppies, while their joints and bones are still growing. And you'd have to think about how you plan on taking her outside for potty breaks (particularly when it's still a puppy when you have to take them outside more often). I think Rosie would have done perfectly fine if she lived with us in our old apartment. We had more than enough space to accommodate a sleepy, lazy Newf.

I would also check with the apartment manager to see if they have size restrictions. Most apartment places do.

I was VERY tempted to send this one in for the best eyes contest... but decided to go for "cute and sweet" instead

You sure know your audience... we're suckers for those sweet puppy dog eyes. Lucca is growing so fast. I think it's hilarious when they just don't realize they're growing out of fitting into small spaces (like mini dog beds).

What a crew! It must be an adventure/debacle every time you take them all somewhere.

The others are right. There's no reason to worry that it's another ACL injury just yet. Watch her gait the next few days and if it doesn't pass, then I'd take her to the vet.

There's no reason to feel bad. You're not a bad dog owner. Injuries happen. Restricting our dogs to a crate to 'protect' them from EVERYthing wouldn't be a fun life.

What great timing to be on two consecutive 16-hour shifts. Sounds like a bad day at your household, to put it lightly.

Are you injecting steroids into that paw?!? That's unbelievable! I'm a sucker for big fuzzy paws.

This reminds me of one of those 'new to being a mom' ideas of putting your newborn in a size 12m onesie and taking a picture of them each month, to see their baby growing into the onesie... except in this case it's a shower! How hilarious is that?!? I'm going to have to do the same thing for our next fur pup.

That edited photo is hilarious! Miles sure knows how to relax!

Rosie likes to jump in the tub too... just to see if there's yummy soap available for the eating.

That first pic reminds me of those Discovery/Animal channel shows when they're doing footage in the African sahara and they show those meerkats standing erect on their hind legs. Your pyrs are amazingly snow white. Do you lock them indoors?!?  ;D

That is the most welcoming-looking bed ever, with not one, not two, but three furballs! What great company to sleep with!
