German Shepherd Discussions / Re: Potty Training
« on: April 26, 2005, 12:56:45 am »
Sorry I forgot to put this in my other post regarding potty training.  Are you feeding her at certain times or freefeeding her.  If you are free feeding and access to water all the time then it has no other place to go but out.  I would advise to feed her no later than say 6 pm and make sure she has ample opportunities to go out.  With water I wouldn't give it to her later than say 8 pm.  Also I would not let her just be loose at night--crate or fence off a place for her.  Since GSDs are naturally very clean dogs if this doesn't help then I would take her to my vet and explain the problem to them.  My puppy just turned 4 months on the 19th and he is totally housebroken.  Even though he can hold it longer I still keep him on a feeding/watering schedule. Not only because of the housebreaking but he also plays in water and I have cleaned up several messes where he has played and emptied water bowls.  Hope this helps.  Enjoy your puppy.  Minta

Hi Peter  Thank you very much for the compliments on my beautiful boy.  I know Max said there was no bad color but I have always wanted a sable like him and this is my first time to have one.  I think I will check your list out--you can never stop- learning about our great breed.  Minta

You will be amazed at how much her color will lighten up and all over not just her legs.  I see color on her jaws and even though I think she will have a dark face she will still lighten up and be typically black and tan.  Minta

General Board for Big Dogs with Big Paws / Pedigrees

How do I post a pedigree?  I tried and it says basically anything coming off my hard drive has to be in jpg etc format.

In my little 2 stoplight town we have one vet.  I would probably never take a problem to him that needed a lot of work or thought--that's terrible--he always seems so preoccupied but he is fine for vacs, health certificates, etc.  There is another one about 35 miles--on a dirt road-away-she specializes in horses and you never know when she may be off pulling a foal or something and with the price of gas I prefer not to drive that far and then find she's not there.  There are a couple of vets in the next town over about 10 miles but they only do large animals.  Minta

Hi Peter What a beautiful GSD you have--simply beautiful.  You and I are on another furm together--Home of the German Shepherd.  How is the goup you belong to--GSExcellence?  I was thinking of joining but I wanted to ask someone about it first.  I am attaching photos of my 2 children.  My black and tan female, Sadie, is Hungarian/German Show/German Work/DDR.  My sable male is 4 months, Nashoba, which means wolf in the Chickasaw Indian language--which I am--and he is from serious work lines German/DDR/Dutch.  It's good to see you over here.

:'(  I am so sorry to hear about your loss.  I have no suggestions because losing a pet really really hurts.  Not only for the people involved but also other pets.  I am not sure if getting you collie another pet right off is the answer.  If I did I would get her a puppy.  Again so sorry and give you pet a big hug for me.  Minta

What a beautiful puppy!!  Now this is just my opinion but I don't think it has enough bone to be a Shiloh or King.  Also  in the DDR and Czech lines the puppies' ears come up much much sooner.  The other GSDs you have--are they American German or what?  Just out of curiosity.  Anyway just thought I'd throw my 2 cents worth in.  Good luck with the puppy.  Minta

German Shepherd Discussions / New to Board
« on: April 08, 2005, 03:04:51 pm »
Hello to everyone.  I am new here and just found this board by accident.  I have been in GSDs for over 20 years and they are the bomb!!!  I just recently got a new puppy--he is German, Dutch and DDR working lines.  Sable, my favorite color.  I named him Nashoba, which in Chickasaw (Indian) means wolf.  We live in Southern Oklahoma.  I moved here 2 years ago from Dallas TX but I did grow up here.  Nashoba has a "sister" Sadie who is 6, blk and tan and all German work lines also.  I have trained and competed in AKC Obedience and worked Schutzhund also.  Glad I found this board and hope to get to know everyone.  Minta
