Treatment & Preventative Meds / Re: Poor Lola..

Poor girl! Hope she is doing better. As far as collecting urine, I don't know if I could be so quick!! I'm sure your neighbors have an opinion after watching you out in the yard!! ;D It seems like the girls here just keep passing diaarhea back and forth to each other.  :-[. When I have to give large pills I wrap them in a small piece of bread with peanut butter. They love it!

General Board for Big Dogs with Big Paws / Re: Well, Um, Yeah

I too will vote for the dane. I would consider a rescue for several reasons. 1. You will know what you are getting drool vs no drool. 2. Housebroke/crate trained. 3. Energy level. 4. good protection - my girls have huge barks that make most think twice. 5. You can avoid a dog that has separation issues by letting rescue know that you will be away during the day.

As far as DC appartments, my son is moving there in 2 weeks and they are extremely expensive to get into a safe area. There are extra charges for everything - parking space, pets etc. You may want to expand your search to areas that are served by the MARC trains etc. which will include Maryland & even West Virgina.

Good Luck and early planning is a great idea!

Behavior, Housebreaking, Obedience / Re: My nemesis: the stairs
« on: May 19, 2009, 12:08:51 am »
Athena was 9 months when I got her and she would have nothing to do with the stairs. She got used to walking on the leash so I started using the leash to get her started. She seemed to go with the leash on in the begining. Now she is fine. I also put carpet treads on the stairs so she would not slip as easily.

Athena is only crated during tue & thur during the day while I'm at work, Aurora has full roam. At night they both sleep with me - crowded but I love it!! ;D ;D

I'm soooo very sorry to hear about the big man! I plan on remembering him in your video of him digging in that mud puddle. He had a wonderful life with so many puppers to play with. He will have more great puppers waiting to welcome him home on the other side. Blessings to all of you.

Behavior, Housebreaking, Obedience / Re: therapy visits: advice?
« on: May 07, 2009, 07:38:58 am »
Are they permitted on the beds at home? They might sense the child is ill and might be afraid of that smell. I'm sure there are those who use their dogs for therapy that will be able to give you ideas.
