Well, true dog people, like ourselves, would never jump on that band wagon.  It's like they just want a trophy dog so they can tell everyone they own a "rare" albino rottie.  Give me a break.

So true....  This kind of ignorant attitude that was displayed on that website is partially why there are so many dogs in need of rescue.  So many people get dogs just because they look "cool" or they might get attention if they have one.  A perfect example of this is the whole Pit Bull/Rottweiler/Urban Tough guy association.  It's just foolish to get a purebred dog without doing your homework.  Many people get dogs because they look cool and then they realize dog ownership is hard work, especially with a higher energy dog.  Then the dog gets neglected or dumped or put in a pound or in some cases, killed.  Ignorance and Apathy at it's finest.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but to puposely breed a genetic freak like an Albino just seems wrong.  If it happens naturally that's one thing and then it really is kind of cool to see.  Sort of like seeing an Albino Boa Constrictor or an Albino Tiger.  Although they aren't in the same category, Grey Newfs look really cool, but I have heard so much about their health problems, because that is a recessive gene trait.  It would be unique to have one, but I would rather have one that was born by accident than on purpose.   I'm not trying to judge breeders who selectively breed recessive traits, but I worry about it all.  It just seems to be going against the whole process of genetics, i.e. dominant genes strengthening the gene pool.  I guess this is why I don't want to ever breed dogs, too many politics, too many points of view.  I personally just prefer dog ownership.

Couldn't have said it better myself. :)

Never mind the big price tag on these dogs.  That's only the beginning for what the buyers will spend in medical bills.  Then when they find out it's not a walk in the park and it's going to cost them, the dog goes to a shelter.

I feel similarly about white shepards.  That was a genetic flaw.  But now it's a popular color to have.  But the temperment is unpredictable, and they have major ear and skin problems.  That's just my opinion though.
