Newfoundland Pictures / Drake in Tahoe
« on: June 28, 2005, 11:17:45 pm »
Sarah and I had a wonderful time last weekend up at Lake Tahoe.  If you don't know where that is, it is a huge "lake" that is right on the the California/Nevada border.  Any way, lots of laughs, lots of hiking and lots of time spent with Drake.  Here are a few shots to share.  Drake swimming, bringing "sticks" that I threw for him, hiking with Sarah, Having some corn with us for dinner and then finally the Raccoon he treed that evening. (He don't like Coons!!!)  It was a wonderful weekend and we look forward to more just like it this Summer.

Newfoundland Pictures / Newfie Summer Cut
« on: June 23, 2005, 01:17:11 pm »
Tis the season for Hot, Hot weather, so we gave Drake another Summer Cut.  I know this may irk some of you Newfie owners, we've already had people look at us with disgust, but Drake is much more comfortable in the heat and he stays cleaner.  We found when we didn't do this, he would get tons of hot spots and really start to stink due to his fur getting wet all the time, plus he would get really over heated.  Look how different he looks compared to the image of him on my Avatar. We didn't shave him, actually the GROOMER didn't shave him, but cut his hair really short with shears.  We've actually gotten a lot of compliments from people about how good he looks.  He is such a Handsome Devil!  Some people have claimed this is bad for their fur, but we haven't had any problems.  Besides, he's not a show dog!  He was the pick of the litter and has show dog qualities, but we just wanted to have a pet and let him live a family dog life.  So if he doesn't have perfect fur, OH WELL!  What do you all think?  Do you do the same thing with your dog?

Food Discussion & Information / FROSTY PAWS!!!
« on: June 22, 2005, 11:55:16 pm »
Ok guys, I know this is a late post, some of you right coasters are probably sawing some serious logs by now. Any way, my wife came across this wonderful product a few months ago while parusing the frozen food section at our local Safeway.  They're called Frosty Paws and I can almost guarantee your dog will LOVE THEM!!  You may already have heard of these and if you have, you know what I'm talking about.  They're basically ice cream for dogs, kinda like the Carnation Malts you get at the Ballpark.  They're made out of soy and have no sugar or additives.  DOGS LOVE THEM!!!  Here are a few shots of Drake and Yogi eating it.  There so cute to watch as they lick away, their big newfie lips wrapped around the cup.  For more info go to:

I see that a lot of people are including their dog's buddies on their profile.  How do you add that?  I looked all over the Paw Print setup menu and can't seem to find that feature.  411 please!

Newfoundland Discussions / No Dogs Allowed
« on: June 17, 2005, 10:03:18 am »
It's street fair and farmer's market time here in Cali and we love bringing Drake to these fun events.  Unfortunately, and it seems it's just in our county, they don't allow dogs at public events.  We take him anyway, because that is just rediculous.  We took Drake to the Art, Wine and Music festival last weekend here in Novato and of course, we got mobbed.  One volunteer walked up to my wife who was talking to a Newf lover, interrupted her with an "AHEM" and shoved a No Dogs Allowed sign in her face.  I laughed because she replied, "Sorry, he's not a dog, he's a Newf"!  So we continued on, stopping constantly so people could gush and molest Drake, which was great!  We love sharing him with others and the positive reaction we get.  Then a cop walked by us with his daughter and she screamed, "Oh Daddy, look at the doggy"!  She runs up to give Drake a hug and he goes into cop mode. "Uh, there's no dogs allowed and it's posted at every entrance, you have to leave!"  We were like, ok, just give us a minute to peel your daughter off our dog and then to tell this growing line of people who want to pet and talk about him that we are leaving!  It was so freaking rediculous!  Does anyone else have to deal with this stupid issue?  What is the logic behind it?  People love big dogs and want to be around them.  It is overwhelming how people will go out of their way to just be able to pet and talk about them.  A few months ago, George Lucas himself pulled up next to us and began baby talking Drake who was hanging his head out the window.

Hey guys, I got some good pics of Drake from Bay to Breakers and thought maybe they might be good images for the top of the BPO site.  I forgot what we are supposed to officially do for this, please remind me.  My friend Jenny took some shots last weekend of Drake with her sweet @ss full format camera as well.  Sooo, check these out and if you don't fully fall in love with them, wait until the others come later this week.  Let me know what you think.

Newfoundland Discussions / Food for Irritable Doggie Stomachs
« on: May 19, 2005, 09:55:35 am »
I'm seeing a lot of posts and comments from people mentioning that their dogs have loose stools or problems with their food.  Drake has had this problem since he was a pup and we went through so many different brands of food.  We finally found Flint River Ranch and he has been fine ever since.  I am only mentioning this because I know big dogs have this problem and it looks like many of you are dealing with it.  It is a bit expensive, but it is worth it for your dogs health and it can be delivered regularly to your house.  Here's the link and hopefully this will help some of you like it did for us.  Let me know what you think!!!

Newfoundland Discussions / Newf at Bay to Breakers
« on: May 16, 2005, 08:42:28 am »
Hey all it was a crazy weekend and I am sad it is over.  Yesterday was the annual Bay to Breakers race in San Francisco.  For all of you who don't know what that is, it's a 7.25 mi. foot race that goes from downtown San Francisco out to Ocean Beach.  There are a lot of people who actually "run" this race, but the majority of people are partying in the streets.  There's centipedes, people tied together in a group with some sort of theme (some of which are disgusting), and costumes and naked people all over the place.  It is a great event to bring your dog to.  So I brought Drake for the second year and he had his Doggles and drool bib on.  He got absolutely molested!!!  People came up and were petting and kissing him and he was photographed at least 100 times!  No Joke!  I, unforturnately, forgot my camera in my rush out the door in the morning and I really wish I had brought it.  It would have been great to get of shot of my dog/celebrity in his glory.   At one point, there were about 15 people with cameras around Drake and about 5 girls posing with him and hugging and kissing him.  It was a total frenzy!!!  And then there was me at the other end of the lead, just smiling and laughing.  He was like Paris Hilton posing for the Paparazzi.  It is unbelieveable how much attention big dogs get, people couldn't get enough.  He gets a lot of attention in public normally, but at an event like Bay to Breakers where people are drunk and out of control, it is just NUTS!!!  Hopefully I get a picture from it all to share, I think one of my friends took one.  Seeing how many shots were taken of Drake, there's got to be many pictures of him zipping around the internet today.  Was anyone else there and have the same experience?

Newfoundland Pictures / DOGGLES RULE!!!
« on: May 09, 2005, 08:04:28 am »
We were introduced to Doggles by Jaime, Michael and Bear at the Specialty.  This Mother's Day, my Mom brought a belated birthday gift for Drake.  DOGGLES!!!  This is my Neice with Drake after he got them.  Those things are hilarious but practical.  Now he can stick his head out the window at any speed and he won't have to squint on those long summer walks.  I can't wait to see the faces of people we pass when they see the big Newf head with Doggles on, good stuff!  Does anyone else have these?

On a side note, after the big Specialty weekend, last Sunday was Drake's 3rd Birthday.  I can't believe it's been three years already.  We love him so much and he has enriched our lives more than we can ever understand.  Here he was on the big day, sitting in his kiddie pool with his Dauchsund Uncle Tucker.  HAPPY DOGGIES!!!

Newfoundland Pictures / Monterey Specialty Weekend
« on: May 04, 2005, 12:48:19 pm »
We had a great time in Monterey last weekend at the Specialty and I just had to share some pictures.  The first picture was the first night, Drake, Bear and Yogi played around on the 19th green at the Hyatt golf course.  Next are the last day of the Specialty, the Best of Show contest.  There's a handler with her Newf, a Sweet Newf named Shelton getting groomed and a Beautiful Rare Gray Newf.  I was excited to get that one!  Finally, there is the beach shots which were great.  It was so awesome to see all these big dogs playing together in the surf and just being dogs.  The whole weekend was a great experience and it was fun making new friends with Michael, Jamie and Bear.

Newfoundland Discussions / SPECIALTY BOUND!!!!
« on: April 29, 2005, 03:43:48 pm »
We are off to beautiful Monterey for the National Specialty.  We are so excited!!!  This is going to be a blast, hundreds of Newfs all over the place, my logo on all the official items and great sunny weather.  We are bringing our Drake and our friend is bringing her Newf Yogi and my Mom is bringing her Dachsund Tucker.  He may feel a bit intimidated by all the big dogs but he's a trooper.  Hope to possibly run into some of you, I look forward to meeting Michael, Jaime and Bear.  I'll have some great photos to share on Monday.

Newfoundland Discussions / Silver Newfies
« on: April 29, 2005, 08:44:15 am »
I've obviously seen a lot of Black Newfs, quite a few Landseers and plenty of Browns, but does anyone here have a Silver Newf or even know of any?  I haven't seen any at the dog shows I have been to and I haven't even seen a picture of one, but I know they exist.  I recently did a logo for the NCNC Health & Rescue:

http://www.ncnc.org/Rescue/rescue.htm

They wanted me to put all the varieties of Newfs in it and I had to just guess what the silver looked like.  I guessing it isn't as light colored as I made it, that was because I didn't want it to blend with the Black.  They probably are just a bit lighter than a Black.  Can anyone enlighten me?  Pics would be great too!!!!!!!!!

Newfoundland Discussions / Newf Sensibilities
« on: April 14, 2005, 11:17:28 am »
My Stepdad passed away the other night at home and we came to see him before he was taken away.  Our Newf Drake was there and he just knew something was up.  It is so amazing how sensitive these dogs are, they just know how people are feeling and what's going on, even without obvious signs.  He just sat by the door as if he were guarding my dad, and even barked at the funeral home people when they came as if to say, be careful with this one guys.  He knows when I'm sick, he hides when we argue and he's suddenly extra gentle around little kids and the elderly.  My wife and I are constantly looking at each other and saying, "our dog is too f**king smart!"  My wife and I grew up with several different dogs and none compared in intuitiveness like our Newfie.  It is scary sometimes, it's like he's human.  I know a lot of dogs are like this, but does anybody else feel this way about their Newf?
