Medical Conditions & Diseases / Re: Ugh.....anal sacs
« on: January 11, 2006, 11:29:30 am »
Ugh....the dreaded smell.  Isn't it terrible?!?!?
Even a small drop can smell forever.

I hope she doesn't mind me giving out her name but Marit (mastiffmommy) has always come to my resue when I've had anal sac/gland issues.  She the guru.

I didn't even know what an anal sac was until I adopted Daisy.

Good luck.

Anything Non-Dog Related / Cute pic from the past
« on: January 10, 2006, 06:51:42 pm »
I found this old pic and wanted to share.

The pupper belongs to my sister-in-law and the boy is my son.  It was taken 3.5 years ago.

Your puppers are cuties!

Jilly would cry and whine when she was little.  She's part shepherd....ma ybe it is that. ;)

I read books, asked everyone I met and then compiled the things that I thought would work for me.  While she was teeny tiny I had her crate next to my bed and kept my hand close to her crate.  Maybe not recommended but it worked for us.  When she fussed and it wasn't time to go out I would say shhhh...and press my hand to the crate.  She would know I was there and go back to sleep.  I only did this for a week or so.
I would not speak to her when I took her outside other than to say, "good girl" once when she did her business outside.  No playing and I kept it low key....then back in the crate.  For a couple of weeks Jack slept in the crate with her for no other reason then that's what worked at the time.   When she was about 8 months old we retired her crate.   It wasn't working for us any longer.   Jack never used a crate and everytime we let her out of hers it was like the canine version of WWF.

Sounds like you are already intune to your dogs' needs....ie. your dogs dislike of the fan.    Best of luck with the pup.  Hope you'll post updates on what works with the little imp.  He sure looks like a cuddle bug!

General Board for Big Dogs with Big Paws / Re: I love this board!
« on: January 10, 2006, 12:45:21 am »
When I adopted Daisy last summer I started looking for advice on raising a Neo.  I ended up on a few Neo specific  boards that were.....um... ..how to put this kindly......th ey were a good fit for some people but not a good fit for me.
BPO is a great fit.  Not only do I get good advice and love for Daisy who is a Neapolitan Mastiff but just as much advice and love for my mixed breed puppers...Jack ..a shepherd/hound...and Jilly a Rotti/mastiff/shepherd.
It's so awesome to be able to ask questions and express my views freely.
It's even OK to post photos of little paws AND KITTIES here.

You are all so wonderful.

I'm so glad I found BPO.

I am too ashamed of my backyard.  Its a sea of mudd and doggy doo :P

If it snows again, i'll take pictures

Its funny, people always say how cold Canada is...we dont even have a bloody snowflake..It stinks!

Reading your post I thought...dogg y doo?  Oh no....Can you see the dog poop and pee in my backyard pics?!?!?!? AAAGGHHH....an d I immediately scrolled UP to check my pics.  Too funny!
I didn't even think of that when I posted.   The combination of me being on the second floor and shrinking the pic seems to have hid the mine field pretty well.  DO NOT LOOK TOO CLOSELY!

Recently  angelsmama posted a pic of her cute pupper slobbering her with kisses (such a cute pupper).  I noticed that there wasn't a lick of snow anywhere!   She told me it was SIXTY TWO DEGREES that day!!!  :o
That got me wondering how different the weather is in BPO backyards.

So...run outside and snap a shot or two.

Here are mine.....
