Labrador Retriever Discussions / on a more solemn note...
« on: November 06, 2007, 09:24:33 pm »
I'm posting this to tell every one that my husband and i decided that it was in Chevy's best interests to find a home that better suited his needs. As Boog has been growing like a complete weed and Max is the top dog, Chevy has become increasingly submisisve and anxious, not to us humans but to the other dogs. He was never attacked or 'bullied' by the other two but he is just of a MUCH MUCH softer nature than them. I've turned this over in my head for a long time. i think that between the size difference and the disposition that Chevy has he became very anxious. I hoped that it could work out. but i've decided that it is HIS best intrests that i need to keep in mind, not mine. and with that in heart i began a search for a better home for him. I've finaly found the right family. they live about 3 hours away, and they have a little 4 year old girl. It was a perfect match. so I've let my Chevy doodog go, in hopes that he can lead a more stress free life as an only dog. is bitter sweet...

Anything Non-Dog Related / realy non dog related- a new chapter...
« on: September 11, 2007, 02:27:00 am »
alright guys, my family's in the very beginning of some huge changes in our life, well, big for me I guess. about 2 weeks ago Jeff dislocated his shoulder. he's going to have to have surgery and is going to be off work for up to 5 more months. so.... im going to work. starting this week i'll be working 10+ hour shifts, so I prabably wont be on bpo as much :-\. There just werent any other options. It's going to be hard getting used to but I think once ive been doing it for a while it'll be ok. I realy hate to leave my babies durring the day, but tons of other moms do it, i can too.
so dont think im not active on the board anymore !!! I dont even know what my shifts are im working yet, I think ill know alot more after tomorrow.
Oh! and one other potentialy huge thing, im late.....<a href="http://plugin.smileycentral.com/http%253A%252F%252Fwww.smileycentral.com%252F%253Fpartner%253DZSzeb008%255FZRxdm429MFUS%2526i%253D23%252F23%255F34%255F4%2526feat%253Dprof/page.html" target="_blank"><img border="0" src="http://plugin.smileycentral.com/http%253A%252F%252Fimgfarm%252Ecom%252Fimages%252Fnocache%252Ftr%252Ffw%252Fsmiley%252Fsocial%252Egif%253Fi%253D23%252F23_34_4/image.gif">

supprise supprise!
Gunner is a 3 year old dachshund that we had untill he was two years of age, i dont know if some of you remember me talking about him on an earlier post. but when we had our little girl, we were afraid that he wouldnt do good with kids, since he is nearly blind. so he went to live with my aunt (which was totaly a happy ending because Gunner and my aunt never could get enough of eachother when they'd see eachother). but now a year later we found out that my aunt will be going through some huge changes in her life and may not be able to keep Gunnie or her cat. she's been so worried about what she'll do if things dont work out. so I talked to hubby, and to my aunt. Gunner as it turned out does great with kids, and I told my aunt that if things dont work out that we will be there if Gunnie should need a home, im so excited! and she's been so relieved that he'll be with family that loves him and knows him well. so IF things should turn out that way, well be adding a 4th pup to the family!! well not realy... Gunnie's always been part of the family ::)
Just wanted to share

FAQs about puppies / boog's too nutzy*
« on: July 24, 2007, 08:16:07 am »
hubby and I have been so supprised that Boog is turning out to be a dominant dog! he was the runt' of the litter and i would've never thought. so i have a question to ask. if we got him neutered now ( i think he's 12 weeks) would it make a difference in his behavior already? or does neutering only effect the behavior after 6 months old or so. Max and Chevy are both neutered, and boog always seems to have his teeth out when he's around them. ive tried squirting vinegar in his mouth when he uses his teeth. and he hates it but will go right back and do it again ::) so i was wondering if it would make a difference even though he's this little. just wondering...

FAQs about puppies / i have an antisocial boog
« on: July 20, 2007, 02:03:22 am »
i dont seem to remember max being nearly this anxious! Boog is absolutely terrified of new people :( poor guy, well honestly he's quite the chicken no matter what the situation. well i havent done much reading on fearfull agression but when he meets new people and they walk up to him (especialy males) he gets so scared i can tell he's on the verge of biting! he's just horrified. i feel realy bad for him. now if you already know him you would never guess that he would be like this around new ppl. he's very lovie with every one in the house, loves the babies, it's so cute he's realy a great dog. but when it comes to someone he doesnt know he acts like he's been traumatised in the past or something. he was nervous at first when we picked him up from the breeder but he got over that after we'd been there about 5 minutes. so of course ive been socialising him, when we were at the vets last week he growled and showed his teeth at our vet!! i was mortified! he did because he was so scared...so im asking for advice as to what i can do. i like to take the boys with me every where but right now boog is honestly a liability, i dont want people getting the impression that he's got a foul temper either. he's such a sweetheart, i know it's because he's afraid and ive taken note that he does do well with people that dont come on suddenly to him but i was wondering what every one else thought, if you have any experience with scaredy cat puppies, or have any advice i'd sure appreciate, i want him to enjoy going out in the car, not be worried who we have to meet. he's got such a sweet disposition at home, i want to know what i can do to make him feel comfortable every where. if yall need more info or i left something out tell me and ill post it for ya. i want to get ontop of this set back so he doesnt have to be afraid. it's realy sad to see him like that guys.

Great Dane Pictures / Boog at ten weeks & chevy tries to deny.....
« on: July 11, 2007, 03:21:21 am »
boog is getting so big! his back is almost the same heigth as chevy's now. I love watching em grow it's so amazing. he is now able to jump onto the couch, to his delight, without assistance. he's been trying and trying since we brought him home, but he's finaly got all 4 limbs coordinated enough that he usualy makes it. he still thinks he can run under the chairs and the baby bouncer so he's constantly runing into them head on. he's been putting on weight nicely the last couple weeks he's around 30 lbs. now. he's still got quite a ways to go yet.
as i was out taking pics of boog today i looked up at chevy and see this hanging out of his mouth (below) hmmm. wonder what HE was DOING?!?!? but he just looked into my eyes with that dreamy stare oblivious to the carpet hanging out of his mouth giving away his previous nottyness. i knew somebody had been chewing on the carpet the last week but i havent ever been able to catch them in the act. well chevy was cought red handed!!!!!ah ha!

Medical Conditions & Diseases / boog is sick
« on: July 02, 2007, 06:32:38 am »
i took boog out to go potty today, and was very alarmed when what came out the back end was red! so we went to the vets and they took his temp which is 103 they said that it's prabably a bacterial infection. so he's on antibiotics for the next week. thank god it wasnt parvo. but since this has happened ive been wondering 'what if he would get realy sick and loose a bunch of weight'? he's just skin and bones as it is. so i asked the vet if i can give him anything to eat in addition to his puppy food (were still working on the last bag of science diet before we switch to innova)to help him gain some weight. and he recomended another bag of science diet. which of course i didnt go for. so i would like to ask all of you what you would recoment for me to mix into his dry food to help him put on some pounds.
