Anything Non-Dog Related / Re: My New Topic: What do we drive

I drive a 2003 Land Rover Discovery 2...it was a great car for Colorado, but now I'm looking to downsize since I live in Michgan and don't have to drive up the side of mountains.  Although Lennon does like all the room in the Rover :)  My next car will probably by a new Audi A4 Cabriolet, which will also give Len some room to stretch out!

What happened to your wolf-dog?  Lennon can open screen doors, and I'm so worried that he's going to get loose and get himself in a lot of trouble one of these days :-\  He is also very independent, which works out to my benefit because I am independent... I don't like dogs that follow me around the house and whine if I don't pet them.  He and I are a good team...we cuddle at night, we run together, and I share veggie scraps with him.  I know he loves me, and he knows I'm crazy about him.  Has anyone else heard of these wolf-dog breeds?  Any info would be appreciated :)

Lennon sleeps next to me and my fiance in bed until he gets too warm...then he sleeps on the floor on my side of the bed.  I even share my pillow with him :)

Lennon is 1 1/2 years old.  I actually adopted him from a shelter in Boulder.  Someone found him walking around the Flatirons (the smaller "mountains" in Boulder) and brought him to a shelter.  I needed a running companion and was looking for a husky, but decided I might want to adopt one that needed a home instead of getting a puppy.  I found out Lennon was available, but the shelter warned me that he may be a "wolf dog"...what is that anyways?  They said he is half wolf and that he needs the proper home and environment to grow up in.  He was 6 months old, and was a terror.  I guess he didn't like a lot of people and just did whatever he wanted whenever he wanted.  I came over to meet the little guy (he was called "Wolfie" at the time), and he ran up to me and jumped in my lap and gave me kisses! :D  I asked him if he wanted to come home with me, and he let out a loud howl and followed me to the front of the place where I had to pay for him and fill out paper work.  The people were amazed at how he reacted to me and didn't hesitate about letting me adopt him.  I took him home that day, and we've been best buddies ever since!  I don't know what I'd do without him :)

Here are some pictures of Lennon :) I'm hoping to take a vacation to Boulder, CO (our old home) with him in the late summer so we can spend some more time in the mountains...he seems like he misses that lifestyle.  So, meet my baby Lennon!

Welcome, fellow husky lover ;D Do your dogs run away when given the opportunity?  If not, how'd you train them to stay.  I'm begining "click" training, but so far Lennon has no idea what it means or how to react to it... :-[ Am I doing something wrong?

I hear a lot about "clicker training" but don't really know what it is...whatever it is, does it work?  I don't think Lennon runs away because he doesn't love me.  He's a husky from a family of sled dogs, he's supposed to run for a majority of his life.  When he runs, he gets this look in his eyes...it's like he's free and doing what he loves most.  It's almost the same look I get when I run ;D that's why I needed a breed that could run long distances.  The thing is, I've tried most training techniques on him and none have worked at all.  This clicker thing has gotten me interested, and I'm willing to give it a try.  When I talked to a dog trainer about Lennon's running habit, she said there's not much I can do and that huskies love to run.  Perhaps he'll grow out of this ??? I can only hope.  I'd be devistated if he got loose and something bad happened to him

Siberian Husky Discussions / Training my Husky to not run away...
« on: June 06, 2005, 03:52:09 pm »
Hello, all!  I'm new here, and just thought I'd see if any of you have managed to train your dogs to not run away.  I have a husky who's about a year and a half now, and he used to dart whenever he saw a door cracked open when he was a puppy.  He will now sit and stay while the door is open, but if he gets out of his collar while I'm running with him or if he escapes out of my house while a guest is opening the door, he just keeps running and won't come back...I have to hunt him down every time and carry him home, which is a big deal seeing as how I'm pretty petite.  Is there any way to train him to not run away or to at least have him come home after he leaves? :-\
