roo looks like an adorable pup.  Is he a pyr?  I'd love to see some more pix of him.

My name is Chris, and my canine crew consists of Keiko, an almost 11 yr old husky/shep mix, Gunther a 4 yr old great dane and Nigel and Posey, two 3 yr old rat terriers.  :)

And just keep in mind that giant breeds mature more slowly than other dogs so they are still very much the puppy at 1 and even 2 yrs old.

Hello and welcome!
It does sound like you have a full house.  Wonder if the cat thinks he's a dog?

My name is Chris, and my crew consists of Keiko, a husky/shep mix, Gunther, a great dane, and Nigel and Posey, two rat terriers.  I have a few other critters as well.

Rabies vaccination for wolf hybrids is yet another difficult issue. Although it is likely that current rabies vaccines are as efficacious in the hybrid as they are in the dog, Federal regulations require that any vaccine be tested in a species before it can be approved for use in that species. Due to the expense, no such testing has ever been done on either wolves or hybrids. Regardless, many hybrids have been vaccinated with canine rabies vaccine. Such vaccinations are not officially recommended or recognized, and in some States may even be illegal. Consequently, hybrids that have bitten someone are often treated differently than a dog would be. In many cases the hybrid must be destroyed and the brain examined, regardless of whether or not it was vaccinated for rabies.

Huh this is really strange (the having to be approved for a species) the wolves at the zoo I worked for were rabies vaccinated.... ....and I'm pretty sure they are everywhere (zoos).  I suppose just a precaution.  I know the cats were rabies vaccinated b/c that issue came up when some people snuck behind the cages and a child got bit by a caracal (after she stuck her arm into their exhibit).  It was put down for rabies testing.

Awwwwe, how can you stay mad at that face!
Speaking of faces, his is starting to look very grown up.  He's almost out of the puppy look already!  :o
Love hearing about all his adventures.

Not that I'm an expert by any means......... ........but just by looking at him, I'm not sure he has either breed in him.  I can't see that coloring or head shape coming out of a pyr/wolf mix.

I would not go around telling people he is a wolf mix.  If your vet is concerned I would put him down as a pyr/shep mix or pyr/mal/sibe mix........... although if he is uncomfortable with your dog it may already be too late for that vet.  And yes, in most states it is illegal to own a wolf or wolf hybrid w/o a special license.

It is hard to tell parentage with his current age.  It is much easier to tell once they are closer to 6 mo old.  But he is on track for a big paw.  My dane was 42 lbs at 12 wks.

Are you sure his feet are webbed?  The webbing on webbed feet starts usually just below the end of the nail or beginning of the toe.

do you have any more pix of him? he is a cutie to be sure, i love his coloring.  Welcome to BPO, btw.  :)

You can always do what I did with Gunther.

I made a list with about 10-12 names on it, handed it to hubby and let him pick one out.  The list was made up of names I had chosen and liked so we would both be happy.  And he was forced to pick a name so there would be no arguements.... ........and for me it let him be involved in my choice to get another dog (which he wasn't really on board for)

However, he vetoed my first 2 choices right away.  :P  :P  Gunther was one of my lesser names on the list but it's really grown on me and it suits him to a T.  ;)

I think it said that Hope was taken to an american eskie rescue.  So she won't end up in a shelter.

but I do agree that buying a puppy for the sake of a story was a bit hypocritical.

Go to your profile page.
Then "forum profile information" which will appear on the left.  Then scroll down until you come to a box labeled "signature".  Simply add whatever you want to add into the signature box.  Go towards the bottom and "change profile"

Should have a signature then.

That totally brings a tear to my eye to hear that.  Not many people would go to that extent, unfortunately.

I have had this happen as well.  I've never taken training classes I do my own training.  But we do frequent the dog park.

When Gunther was about 4, maybe 5 mo old, I got yelled at for letting him play with his choc lab.  His dog was not a puppy either.  But didn't like that Gunther was biting on her neck.

I'm surprised at the other people in your class.  Shar peis are not small dogs........un less those guys are mixed with something smaller.  Neither is a dobie.  Not sure if the poodle mix mentioned is a toy or mini or standard so won't comment on that one.  I would think someone would let their dog play with yours.

But I agree if you can't get on with the people there, switching classes may be the way to go.  that's great that a vet tech wanted a play date with your pup, that should be fun.
