Newfoundland Pictures / Re: Magoo gets a bath
« on: November 07, 2005, 08:36:57 am »
Bath time is so  much fun, isn't it? ;D  Actually, Magoo looked like he sort of enjoyed it--or at least tolerated it!  One of my Dobes HATES bath time, but the other will run into the bathroom and jump in the tub on her own.  You've got a great lookin pup!

Great looking  Shepherds!  My brother-in-law bought a German Shepherd pup about a year ago.  Her name is Eva.  She has a lot of black on her body, but the tan is beginning to be more prominent around her face and ears and legs now.  I love Shepherds, they are so smart-looking.

I read about Dog Scouts a while back, and sounded like something my Dobe and I would enjoy, but everything they do is so darned far away from where we live...not possible for me to go to their camping trips. >:(

Hey, that's the couch I threw away! ;D (just kidding)
I wish I could find a good couch at the dump, on the side of the road, anywhere!  My dogs have totally demolished my couch, and underneath that furniture throw of mine is at least 3 rolls of duct tape! Your hubby did a good thing! ;D

Food Discussion & Information / Re: homemade dog treats
« on: November 06, 2005, 04:22:08 pm »
Here's one that I make all the time for my dogs.  Have also sold them at craft fairs, and they go fast!
2 cups whole wheat flour
1 tsp. baking powder
1 cup peanut butter
1 cup skim milk
Preheat oven to 350
Combine flour & baking powder; in a separate bowl, combine peanut butter & milk; mix wet ingred. w/ dry ingred. and knead together.  Roll out to 1/4" thick. Cut w/ cookie cutter (I use bone-shape), bake for 10-15 min.
I make these for all my human family's dogs at Christmas.  So simple, and the dogs love them.  PS you can underbake them for a couple of minutes and they wont be as crunchy--good for those older small dogs with shakey teeth!

Doberman Discussions / Re: Introduction

There are many reasons why a Dobe may be losing hair.  One is definitely allergies, which is treatable and most of the time only temporary.  I'm talking about the condition where they (most always Blues and fawns) start to lose hair, and the skin sort of begins to look blistery, then eventually, the skin gets a calloused look and feel--it's a blood disorder, or genetic disorder or something.  Our blue female began showing signs of the condition at approx 1 yr old, and we did all kinds of treatments, vet visits, everything we could think of to do, but it progressed to the point that she got deathly sick, and eventually died.  It was horrible.  I still would like to know more about it, though.  I think only a small percentage of Dobermans are affected by it. So many things to worry about when you love your dogs.

Great looking family!  I have 2 blk/rst females now, but I have had Dobies on and off for the past 25 years, and owned a blue once, a long time ago.  She developed that hair thing--you know?  My sister-in-law has 2 reds, a black and a fawn, and she is watching her fawn closely because she's afraid that it will start losing its' hair too. Do you know much about that condition?

Doberman Discussions / Re: Bones
« on: November 06, 2005, 03:14:22 pm »
We always gave our dogs big ol' bones like the basted bones, and they chewed on them for weeks..but not after we got Sasha; she eats them and pukes for 15 minutes.  So we don't give them big bones anymore.  Switched to 'greenies', which are great, but sure dont last them long, or that rawhide that's kind of already ground up and re-formed into sticks.

to Dohertyswissy:  There was a beautiful Greater Swiss Mt Dog in the obedience class Sasha and I finished in August, named Zack, and he was SO SMART, the instructor kept using him as the "roll model" for all the other dogs to behave like.
I love all dogs, regardless of size, but I really love the big solid ones that you can give a big old bear hug to, and sometimes even get a big old bear hug in return from. :D

Ok, I'll try a few here.  1. Darmok & Lucy (RT), best buds
2.This is Dar when I say "show me your teeth" (comes in handy at brushing time :)
3.This is her Dobie smile--Some people might think it's frightening, but I think its cute!

Ok, so help me out again, please.  If I want to post more pix, do I do it here, or go somewhere else?  This looks like a great dog forum place to me.  I have been to some that think if your dog doesn't meet their expectations, then he/she is "junk", you know, a mutt?

Thanks for the tail-wagging welcome!  I have 5 dogs, actually. 2 Dobes: Sasha, a rescue who will be 2 yrs old in Dec. and Darmok who will be 3 in Dec.  Also, Nikki, a 14 yr old toy fox terrier, Heidi, a Pom, and Lucy, a 4 mo old Rat Terrier puppy.  The Dobes are my love of all Dogdom. They get along with all the others, and they both play with the Rattie . They are teaching her all their tricks!
