Anything Non-Dog Related / Anyone have a TempurPedic mattress?
« on: December 16, 2007, 12:33:02 pm »
I had a petsitting job with overnight visits during Thanksgiving week, and got to sleep on a TempurPedic mattress.  I am now obsessed, lol.  I have major back problems (3 herniated discs and stenosis/narrowing of my spinal column)...and the two mornings I woke up in that bed are the only pain-free mornings I have had in a long time.

I immediately got online to learn more about them and possibly purchase one....and found out that they are prohibitively expensive.  About $3,000 for a King size mattress and foundation!  I've been looking into cheaper kinds....altho ugh so far most of the info I find says that TempurPedic is worth the extra money.  I thought I'd see if anyone here has one and if they are happy with it!

Mixed Breed Pictures / My husband's "other woman"....lol...
« on: December 16, 2007, 12:26:30 pm »
Here is a picture of my husband John and our Dolly, who I call his "other woman", lol.  These two are such a trip.  Dolly was a rescue who we were supposed to re-home....but they fell madly in love in less than 48 hours, and 6 years later that love is still going strong.  Dolly worships the ground John walks on....when he comes home every day she squeaks and squeals with glee.  She spends most evenings lying on his lap and looking up at him adoringly.  When he talks to her she jumps up and down in ecstasy.  He seems to feel the same way about her.  He talks baby talk and sings to her and calls her many ridiculously affectionate nicknames.  Every night when he goes up to bed he takes her with him...where she spends the rest of the night snuggled up against him (MUST be touching Daddy in the bed at all times, you know).

Dolly is a big smiler...I've never seen a dog smile quite like her (we don't know what she is so we jokingly call her our "Rare West Virginia Smiling Hound", lol)....and all you have to do is say the word 'Daddy' and she breaks out in a giant grin.  I'm tellin ya, this is one of the World's Greatest Love Stories....hah aha......

Oh, to be able to lie on the floor and let them pile all over me....so much puppy breath, so many fat, warm tummies to rub....it would be absolute Heaven!  They are sooooooooo cute!!

LOL....when I click on a subject line on this board, my computer takes me to the bottom of the thread page....so the first thing I saw was Bindi.  I thought "What in the h*ll is THAT?"....and then remembered that someone here had a Coatimundi!  How cute!!

I love all the snow pictures we have been seeing lately....no one looks as gleeful in the snow as a dog....

LOL....that picture of him in the snow!  That is exactly what Bodhi looks like when he comes in!

I have to say, Bodhi really doesn't shed much.  Of course, we also have a Dalmatian....a nd next to a Dalmatian, any other shedding seems mild, lol.  Dals shed year-round and their short wiry hair doesn't just stick to your clothing, it weaves it's way into the fabric...it's a nightmare!

When I was researching Newfies, I read all kinds of warnings about how much grooming they required...but for some reason I find brushing dogs with that undercoat to be immensely satisfying, lol.  I really feel like I am accomplishing something when I get out all that fuzz....so I enjoy brushing Bodhi!  I just wish he would be more cooperative... .he is all about trying to chew on the brush and my arm while I'm doing it.  I have to give him a peanut butter Kong to get anything done!

LOL....the first picture of Bear in his 'Ugly Stage' looks alot like Bodhi in what we called his 'Electrocuted Stage'.....for awhile every hair on his head seemed to stand on end and he was so funny looking!

When we first brought him home he was in what my aunt called the 'Squeeze Stage'.....because he was "so damn cute you just want to pick him up and squeeze the stuffing out of him!"

Here are pics from both stages! The Fuzzhead/Electrocuted Stage pic is when he is about 6-7 months old....the Squeeze Stage pic is right after I brought him home, about 9 weeks old.  Oh how I love this board...a place where I can share so many pics of my baby....lol...

I've noticed a few times when I've seen pics of other Newfies....inc luding some here, like Fumble and Bear...that Bodhi looks a little different.  It seems like his fur and ears are shorter and his face not quite as jowly and his lips not quite as saggy.  Is that because he is only 17 months old?  How long does it take Newfies to mature physically?  I think he is adorable just as he is....but am wondering if he will continue to change?

Newfoundland Pictures / Merry Christmas from Bodhi!

These are a few pictures of Bodhi from last Christmas.  He wasn't nearly as fuzzy then, lol.  It was hard to get a good picture, all he wanted to do was roll around and chew on everything...b ut the outtakes are pretty funny....

His head IS humungo, lol!  And he always looks that goofy....it cracks people up.  Our vet adores him...he grabs his big jowls and coos, "You are ever such a hairy big dumb dog!  Yes you are!"....and Bodhi wags his tail and throws one of his gigantic paws up for a 'How Do You Do?'.  LOLOL!

GAWD, there is no Newfie cuter than Fumble!  I could look at pictures of him all day, they always make me smile!

I have the pic of him with the watermelon rind on my screensaver and in my wallet.  Yes, I am showing off pictures of someone else's dog, lol....and I think I may have to add the Dickens picture to my collection!

I love Fumble! ;D

Anything Non-Dog Related / Kid with gun fixation...would this worry you??
« on: December 12, 2007, 08:10:48 pm »
My cousin has a 10 year old son who is just a monster.  I hate to say it....but we groan when we find out he will be at a family function, and always talk about what a brat he is on the way home.  He whines and cries and screams (literally) if he doesn't get his way about everything.  He completely ignores everything he is told.  He is spoiled rotten and wants the focus to be on him every minute.  He bullies other kids.  He's just unpleasant in pretty much every way!

His latest stunts, however, go beyond Annoying and into Creepy.  A few months ago we were at brunch at my aunt's house and the kids (she has 5 grandkids....t his monster and 4 girls, all very sweet) put on a "play" in the rec room.  All the adults gathered to watch....it started out pleasantly enough, but quickly became apparent that the play was about a serial killer!  Monster Boy was the killer and the girls were his victims....he took great joy in putting his toy gun to their heads and "shooting" them.  Most of the adults chuckled....bu t it was unsettling.

A few weeks later, my cousin said she found him playing a game with some of his friends.....th e game was "School Shooting".  Monster Boy was ordering them all to "act like they were hiding under their desks" and once again walking up and putting a gun to their heads and shooting them.  She took his toy guns away for a week.

Two weeks ago we were having brunch at my aunt's again...and as usual, Monster Boy had a toy gun tucked into his waistband.  Occasionally he would walk up to a family member and whip out his gun and put it to their head and tell them he was going to blow their brains out.  By this point I'd had enough.  I don't think this is appropriate for any kid...and this kid already has some serious issues.  When he came at me with the gun I told him to get it out of my face, and suggested to my cousin that his fascination with shooting people was not good.

What do you think?  Would this creep you out?  Do you think it's inappropriate?  Would you let your child do this?

Nothing fancy, just a few pics I took when I was bored....but I can never resist showing off my baby!  He always looks so delightfully stupid in photos....I can almost hear him saying, "DUH, Mommy...."! LOL!  Isn't he handsome, though?  *SIGH*....it's amazing how much you can love a big ball of brown fuzz.....hahah a

Holiday Things / Our Christmas card this year
« on: December 05, 2007, 07:49:18 pm »
I do all my business printing with Vista Print...their quality is great and their prices amazing.  This year I had them print our Christmas cards...here they are...

On the back it says, "Hope Yours Go Smoothly"

I thought this was pretty clever, and assumed most people would get it...the pictures indicating that we had tried to get Christmas photos of our animals and it didn't go smoothly, so I was telling everyone I hoped theirs did.  But my husband didn't get it!!  Is he just a dope?  I don't want to send these out and have people go "HUH? How come she sent us a card with these screwed up pictures of her pets?"!  What do you think?
