Beau will grab my arm when he feels he needs something and i just don't get it (or too play hide and seek), but you never feel his teeth. if he is doing it for attention the ouch and ignoring him may work best. Beau grabbed me wrong once and he got a ouch and a dirty look after that he looked mortified. these big babies hate being ignored so that may work best, especially if that is why he is doing it. I am sure Luke means well it just sucks that his hand has sharp edges in it...lol

4 months is a short time, congrats on the marriage, but with cody the honeymoon is over, he is going to test you to see what he can get away with, be tough and he should fall in line. your ideas are great. Good Luck

I agree with the other posters, also if this behavior continues, he can become worse and become a threat. If he will not allow you to touch him there is a problem, it sounds like he needs more time with you not your husband. It would be hard but if he only gets things from you (until he learns), he should straighten up, it is YOUR house not his (cody). If that is too much with 4 dogs and a young child, it may be, that is a lot. then it would be best to re-home him. you are not dumping your dog if you are doing whats best for him. plus apologetic or not he can not behave the way you described, if he wants food, outside attention it must come from you and he has to accept that, or he does without, trust me these big guys won't starve themselves. plus if he becomes more comfortable with you all the behavior issues may resolve themselves. He will love you when he depends on you for everything. Ignore the bad behavior and praise the good. Good luck to you guys and what ever you do you are making the best decision for your boy and your family.

Its crazy here outside cleveland Ohio. I haven't checked our forecast yet but the roads are awful. I wish Beau would play it he is such a pre-madonna  its hard enough to convince him to go potty in this stuff. He does like to eat it though.

I will start this story was very funny to us and most people that know our Beau, but the Florida power guy probably did not think so (at first).

When we first moved to Florida (we are back in Ohio now). this happened my husband was at work and I was home, i was in the garage doing laundry and I heard Beau woof really load, and sound confused, so i stepped out the back door and looked and i saw this guy about to pee his pants, my first response was not ladylike and was "what the F*** are you doing are you crazy. I then called Beau to me and he looked very unsure, but he came and went into the house. I then found out that unlike Ohio the electric company in Florida can enter your yard anytime without knocking. Luckily Beau is friendly  and stayed back but the guy woke him up when he entered the yard through the 6 foot privacy fence. The really funny thing was that the guy had locked himself in the yard because the gate swung shut behind him and locked from the outside. The guy then told me the Florida law and stated there were not dogs there before or a 6 ft privacy fence, i responded that would be why the fence is there. Thank goodness we were home or we probably would have come home to Beau very confused and a meter guy covered in pee with the cops in attendance. After this incident we promptly put a padlock on the gate. in Florida Beau had free roam from the house to the back yard. Also after this incident the guy and his girlfriend went and rescued a mastiff, he was so amazed at beau and his temperament. And we talked about mastiff's every month when he came, plus he always knocked.

If it was a seizure, your vet will need to run tests to make sure there is not an underlining condition. The Chihuahua we just took in suffers from cluster seizure 3-4 times a year for the last 5 years. I have been doing a lot of reading, on this. Zoomer has no underling reason for the seizures so he is considered epileptic. I am currently trying him on all natural food this is what I feed my Mastiffs and I have read that certain preservatives and chemicals case cause and trigger seizures. Here are 2 sites that i found informative.http://www.canine-epilepsy-guardian-angels.com/site_map.htm
http://www.drschoen.com/articles_L1_15.html I hope that it was not a seizure but it does have the characteristic s of one. I have heard of dogs having one or 2 for an unknown reason then never having them again. Also if you see one again, do not put yourself anywhere near the mouth, when seizing a dog can clamp down and not let go. also move anything hard out of the way to prevent injury.

Magic erasers are a must as well as drool rags. Other then that cleaning up after them is easier then the hubby and kids.

As most people on the board know I desperately want a mastiff but hubby won't go for it : (    So I enjoy at all of your pictures.  Your pups are truly adorable!!

Enjoy BPO

Randy and Harley

My hubby said no too but then my one brother-in-law wanted a mastiff type dog to adopt, so i found one looking for a home and they brought him to my house (fenced yard) for introductions, after that my husband was in love, and shortly after we adopted Beau. If it's the size tell him out of any dog i have ever had in the home he is the only one i can lose, he is so quiet and will lay under tables or in a corner. They are the best breed (completely un-biased of me...of course). retrievers are cool though, i just can't do hyper especially now that i am used to comatose.

If that's the case you may have no problems because if butt sees you as both alpha he will take your lead. Beau is actually better with other dogs at home then out. Its kind of like well this is mom and dads house what they say goes but when we are out he wants all four legged creatures to have proper manners and gets upset if they do not. I hope everything goes great and saving money is always a good thing. the only point that more supervision may be necessary is with your nieces. Butt may tolerate and even like Pogo, but if he is rude to the nieces Butt may get protective. Good luck to all of you and your boys are beautiful.

Yep my husband got too close in an argument and Beau thought he was in the wrong, so Beau got between us and stood straight up and shoved my husband back about 6 feet, i think he was saying if i have to choose I choose mom. He never growled or showed aggression he just made his point clear. Beau is also extremely submissive to my husband, but in his head I am mom and mom rules. The funny thing is even if we are joking around if my husband hits me beau grabs his hand and grumbles if i hit my husband Beau grumbles at him, like why is mom mad at you. If we keep doing that he walks away disgusted with us both.

Breed restrictions are BS. everybody who meets my boys love them but then you get the one idiot that asks moronic questions, we normally try to educate but some times we are so annoyed we just get sarcastic. like whats that thing eat?, i normally respond a$$hole$. Or is it friendly to kids, i bet it isn't? while i have my 2 little girls with me. Or those things are aggressive.. so i just say why are you near me then. Beau gets it the worst because of the brindling, Ignorant people need education stupid people need kicked. And the meanest dog i ever rescued was a ratt terrier and the sweetest i have ever met other than my boys is my buddies, 3 legged pit rescue. When we rescued Beau we had to argue with the animal warden who wanted him put down due to ...aggression. ..and that he would eat my house, i told him it was my hand and my house and not his concern. Beau doesn't even rip up his stuffed animals and anybody could almost do anything to him, except he does not like when kids try to figure out if their finger fits in his nose, it does, and only i can trim his nails..the big baby. but no matter anything someone does to him he just walks away. wish people could be this smart. Hopefully this nonsense law is seen for what it is and shot down. God help the person who try's to forcibly remove Beau from my side, at that point i may see a new side to my boy.

LOL! This sounds a lot like my pups. They are both always covered in little scabs (they drag each other around, mouth locked onto loose skin). They don't seem to hurt each other, but man do they play rough. And when they meet up with their sister Tallulah (owned by best friend and her husband) it's like monster fest 2009!

Thats great i always joke that Sanuk has a hard time playing with other breeds he is always trying to grab the jowls...lol

The only thing you mentioned that sent up a red flag for me, is if pogo is hyper and jumps on people. Your boy may feel he is disrespecting, especially with your nieces. The only time Beau almost took out the puppy was because he made my youngest cry and Beau actually picked him up and slammed him, he was ok but he never nipped at her pants again. Since you and your boyfriend live separately right now, you can probably get them out and about then have them over for play dates. if those go fine you can move them in. My boy Beau is very protective of me and my youngest (the whole family too but we are his favorites). He also has his own idea of how a dog may behave and if one breaks his rules of etiquette he handles it, which can look scary but he has never harmed another dog. As for Butt if he is Alpha then pogo needs to submit, or there will be a battle and Butt may submit or pogo will have too or leave. Pogo needs to learn his manners before he is with Butt though, because if pogo jumps on you you would need to put him in his place or Butt will do it for you. Another odd question is have you ever argued in front of Butt with your boyfriend, if he is that protective he may not accept a new male alpha in the house your boyfriend. Hope it goes great Butt will most likely surprise you as long as you control the situation remember you are Alpha not him. plus i would have the boyfriend do some training with him so butt respects him not only likes or tolerates him. In my house Beau sees it as Mom is top then dad and the kids then him and it is his job to make sure everybody with 4 legs listens. He actually will wait till i repeat myself with the puppy then yell at him his self. they are smart animals and naturally don't like violence so Butt should be fine as long as his family is safe and respected. Good Luck.
