We are home, this vacation is over and I guess I am glad we are all still alive and well, and not in white jackets that are tied in back on 8th floor in a hospital.
Monday morning 4 am we were supposed to leave, of course we were late and didnt manage to leave until almost 6 am. On the way there Galahad decided he was NOT going to get comfortable in the car, we played musical chairs all the way there, switched spots and moved around 6 times to try and make Sir Galahad comfy. Finally there we were first going to check Galahad in to his "resort" good food, nice caring staff and BIG runs, sounds good doesnt it? I was just ignorant enough to actually take for granted that a 50 sq. ft. run is okay. NEVER forget to ask about the actual dimensions. Everything seemed okay, and I asked to see the runs, they were like "well we usually dont let people in there, all the dogs get so upset" I said, well "I usually never leave my dogs if I dont know how they will be staying" Sooooo in we went and there was the 50 sq ft. run, 3 FT WIDE AND LONG AS A LANDING STRIP, 3 FRIGGING FEET WIDE, GALAHAD IS LONGER THAN THE RUN IS WIDE..........
.... When I had my lower lip back in my face and not on the floor I started to cry..... yes folks mastiffmommy was in a bording place for dogs crying like a baby. I went out to Chris and I think inbetween the crying sounds and nose blowings he figured something was not totally okay, he went in and we left WITH GALAHAD. 3 hours later we had found a place about 20 min from in laws condo that sounded good, we went there and INSPECTED THE PLACE, AND HAD A LOOOONG TALK TO THE OWNER OF THE PLACE, I explained to her the runs at the other place and started to cry again, just by thinking about one of my babies in a 3 ft wide jail. The fact that she nicely walked me around the place 3 times, answered the same questions at least two times, put up with my behavior and still took Galahad in THAT MAKES HER A SAINT lol.... My baby got a 80 sq ft run with a 100 sq ft outdoor run to go with it, AND it was 10x8 so a nice size. We left him there and of course by then I was so upset over the whole vacation idea so I had to cry a bit more
Back at the condo, the rest of the day went okay, until we were going out for supper, by then Jennifer was so tired so we sat down and then she was asleep, we had to push together two chairs and let her sleep, AND she snored
Got back to the condo, wanted to log on here and sulk for a bit and have you all make me feel better. Couldnt find the bag with puter, after some search realize that the bag with puter, dig. camera, address book, my makeup and chris meds was still at home. The rest of the eve we tried to transfer prescriptions so they could call enough meds in for him down there.
Tuseday. Got up, didnt even take a shower, went to see how Galahad was doing, he was okay but glad to see me, took him for a walk and sat and snuggled with him for a long time. Back to the condo, got ready and off we went to see USS North Carolina, the battle ship. NOW ALL, IT WAS INTERESTING BUT DONT EVER TRY AND DO THAT WHEN IT IS 98 DEGREES OUTSIDE, THAT SHIP IS 700 SOMETHING FEET LONG AND 108 FEET WIDE AND VERY VERY VERY VERY DEEP AND NO A/C DID YOU HEAR NOOOOOO A/C, the shower was totally wasted, let me tell you, I dont think I have ever been sweating that bad in my entired life, I lost track of what was right and left and back and front of the ship almost what was up and down. Chris and Father in law thought it was real interesting so they wanted to see EVERYTHING AND I MEAN EEEEEEVERYYYYY
THING, by then I was sooooo lost so had to choose from either walk with them and try and survive, or I could try and find my way back by myself, which for sertain would have meant an early grave for Marit, I had absolutely no idea where we were. When we finally got up to some kind of room where they had photos and the silver thingies AND A/C I said Ill sit here and you come get me when you are done. A woman came up to me and said "I am soooo lost, do you know how to get to the bridge so I can get off this ship" I said "yes I have been lost all day too, but now I actually know where I am, take that door out and take a right walk pass the big canons and then you should see the bridge" When I was ready to get off the ship I realized you were supposed to take a left and NOT a right. I was sooooo hoping I would not see her again, I had made the poor woman walk the very wrong direction. It was soooo hot in that ship so when you got out in the 96 degree sunshine, you almost felt a slight chill and thought it was sooooo cool and nice (if there is any navy guy out here on this board, hats off to you)
On the way home we stopped and took Galahad out again. Got pizza and went home.
wednesday. up early called the bording place and woke the poor owner up so she could let us in, went and got Galahad, took him to the beach, loved the beach and the sand, trotted out in the water til his knees and then realized that waves came in, and in his hurry to get away from them we almost knocked a little boy over and slung slobbers on his mom. When done offering her a slobber rag and letting the boy talk to Galahad so he didnt think it was a mean ol' doggy, we walked on the beach for about 1 and a half hours, dogs have to be off the beach 9 am during peek season. Then took him to Bark Park a doggy park they have there and all in all had a good time, wish he would have liked the water more though, but I am hoping with a calm water no surfs coming up he might learn.
Back to condo, went shopping with mil and Malin. Got some clothes and fun stuff for the kids, got myself three magnets for the fridge they say "just because you have one, doesnt mean you have to be one" and "the more I get to know people, the more I love my dogs" and "A woman doesnt have an @ss, until she gets married"
Went out to eat and that was the end of that day.
Thursday. Up early, went to see Galahad, went to barefoot landing to walk around see the alligators and shop and spend way too much money. the others got all kinds of things, I spent too much money in two stores, one with home made doggy and cat treats and one with all kinds of breed things, got a mastiff photo frame and a pillow for chris's grandparents with a "champ" on (they are dog nuts too and wont ever go on vacations because of the dog) champ is their springer spaniel. Ordered a bag with mastiff on and a candle with a bullmastiff and a bandana for Zeus that said "my family went to myrtle beach and all I got was a lousy bandana"
Then I fed an allegator, that was swimming around in the water there, I got upset over a pigeon that had only one foot and won a "nemo" by hitting a thingie so a frog jumped into the water lilly cup, flirted with the guy who was working there and made him give me a super sized nemo instead
Packed the car and went HOME
We did do a lot of swimming in the ocean and pool inbetween and I now know I totally suck in sand castle building (no lack of effort though, I actually thought it was so much fun so Malin got embarrased over me)
All in all I guess it could have been worse, but as horrible as it sounds I am GLAD in laws are selling their condo, so we can stay in a pet friendly hotel and mind our own stuff when we go down to the beach.
