Food Discussion & Information / Re: Bones
« on: September 08, 2005, 09:13:16 pm »
Yes, I never feed bones unless I am around to keep an eye on things.  What I would like to hear is from somebody who has actually seen any dogs damaged from eating cooked chicken bones.  I am sure  a large leg of lamb bone that is cooked is ok. hmmmm

Now I have heard that chicken bones are not good for dogs, but plenty of people feed raw chicken with bones in and have had great success.  I have also heard that when cooked, the bones get brittle and can get caught in their throats.  Is that true?  Do any of you know anybody or if even their own dogs  have gotten chicken bones caught in their throats? I haven't.  I have been cheating the rule for years and have never had a problem.  Wonder if I have been doing wrong?  Sometimes it is hard to admit what a terrible mommy you are.  :-[

Makes me homesick for the coast.  I have family in Elk and Willits.  It's like being home.

Food Discussion & Information / Re: Doctoring up Kibble
« on: September 08, 2005, 10:28:39 am »
I've done exactly what you are doing for many years for all my dogs.  We get tired of the same thing every night and so do dogs.  Sometimes a little gravy, sometimes an egg and sometimes strange concotions of left overs mixed with kibble and they are happy campers.  When a dog gets real excited about meal time, then you know they are healthy.

I've heard - no chicken bones.  Wild dogs live on chicken-like creatures and they eat the bones.  I have never heard of any of my friend's dogs nor mine having any problem with chicken bones.  I have heard of people that feed their dogs raw whole chickens with the bone in because if it is cooked then the bones become more brittle.  Is that true, any experts?
:D

Here are some shots I thought you might enjoy of Bear and Cody while working at my house training for therapy dogs.  When all is done we will present to all of you the first three dogs of the Fresno chapter of Therapy Dogs International: Bear, Cody and Niki.  We will be very proud of them - they are all doing so great.

Medical Conditions & Diseases / The eyes have it

Niki has cataracks.  The vet says they are not bad now but she can get laser surgery at about $500 per eye and I would do that.  I ran across this and it looks like a cream or something.  Anybody know about it?

I have a metal thingabob that stretches a band that I used to castrate lambs.  Sometimes if I'm in the mood I hold this thingabob up, examine it and suddenly I get this big rush of revenging men in my past and then I feel much better.  :P

Don't read that wrong, I fouled it all up.  My husband was joking about him drooling from old age - not shooting the dog.  Nevermind, I'll start over and just buy my husband a bib.
